Consumer applications expected to follow lead but much later

Telcontar, a leading supplier of software and services for real-time
location-based solutions and telematics expects both in-car telematics and 3G wireless services to gain advantage from new spatial manipulation technology currently being rolled out. Wireless location applications (WLAs) that are seeing good take-up in the business-to-business sector are; real time traffic information, emergency roadside assistance, directory services, concierge services, brand finder, and routing and mapping as well as fleet management.

Towards the end of 2002 Telcontar expects to see several of these roll out as volume consumer applications. The roll-out of GPRS (global packet radio service) will provide higher bandwidth to deliver richer information such as graphics, games and maps.

Graham Page, Managing Director Europe commented, ¡§Once the infrastructure is available, the applications are built and ready to run. Service providers are meanwhile working hard to ensure that user information is protected and high levels of security and privacy are in place.¡¨
