Collaboration Continues To Set The Pace For e-Government

Software AG, Europe’s largest systems software company, today announced it will be taking part in the Welland Partnership Pathfinder Dissemination and Mentoring Days. The seminars will take place on the 10th and 18th January 2002 in Rutland and Leicestershire. Software AG’s XML technology will be used to enable integrated Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) across the Welland region.

Geoff Cooke, Country Manager UK and Ireland, Software AG, explains, “The Welland Partnership is a Pathfinder Project and as such the partnership has an important role to play in disseminating information, sharing best practice and pointing the way forward for e-Government to other councils. This is why the Welland Partnership is holding these two seminars. Collaboration between smaller local authorities is an excellent approach to facing the complex challenges of e-Government”.

The Welland Partnership brings together five local authorities, spread across four counties in the East Midlands. It comprises East Northamptonshire District Council (Northamptonshire), South Kesteven District Council (Lincolnshire), Harborough District Council (Leicestershire), Melton Borough Council (Leicestershire) and Rutland County Council.

One of 25 Government funded Pathfinder Projects, it will develop and deliver 11 Community Portals by March 2002 as part of the Government initiative for 100% Electronic Service Delivery by 2005. They will provide easy access to the information and services available from public, private, voluntary and community sectors across the 11 market towns in the Welland area. The Partnership will provide 24 hours a day, 365 days a year access to services for approximately 350,000 people.
