Unilever Ceylon Ltd the first to apply E.bridge for 'any time, any where,
any place' enterprise application
UK 22nd November 2001 Enigma, the UK-based strategic business consultancy
enabling companies to achieve greater ROI on existing ERP applications, has
announced the launch of E.bridge, the first pervasive computing tool which
offers totally scaleable 'any time, anywhere, any place' enterprise
application delivery mechanism.
Unilever Ceylon Ltd. (UCL), a truly owned subsidiary of Unilever PLC , the
first company to implement E.bridge, has been piloting the system for the
past 3 months. They anticipate significant savings through reduced inventory
levels by using E.bridge to power its new e-procurement solution. The
company's partners can now access data remotely, on any web-enabled device,
effectively delivering the ERP system to where it is needed. Using
E.bridge, Enigma enabled UCL existing infrastructure to work more
efficiently, without implementing new equipment, and thus without the need
to support new systems.
Chris Burns, MD Enigma, said: "Pervasive computing is a reality. UCL is
already reaping the benefits by taking its ERP application outside its four
walls and practising an any time, any where, any place application. With a
more enhanced ERP application we have enabled UCL to steal the march on
competitors in speeding up the supply chain process and increased business
"Our approach is to offer the customer greater efficiency from systems they
currently have in place. In a climate where businesses need to achieve more
with less, E.bridge is providing customers such as Unilever Ceylon, with
both the strategic advice and personalised solutions they need. We aim to
enhance the efficiency and functionality of their current systems, using the
tools which we have developed to do the job," added Burns.
Unilever Ceylon's B2B e-Procurement launch is focussed towards strategic
sourcing of direct materials. This initiative is a key milestone of
Unilever's 'Path to Growth' strategic agenda to build a world class supply
Vinu Sudan, Commercial Director at Unilever Ceylon commented: "UCL envisages
itself as a new economy company with old economy values. We believe that
the transition from the existing way of doing business to the new electronic
format need not be disruptive or expensive or requiring extensive training
to use the application. E.bridge will ensure a successful implementation as
the application takes advantage of intelligent web forms with an easy
conversion path for traditional paper documents."
Enigma developed the Unilever Ceylon portal to enable the company to share
relevant information with each of its partners; assisting them to
realistically forecast their demands, offer competitive pricing, efficiently
manage their day to day business with UCL and ultimately gear them to
independently surf the net. The overall goal is that both buyers and
suppliers can use the time and ideas that spring from better operations to
reinvent their supply chains for the Internet economy.
