Superior Data Access, Analytics and Information Delivery to Empower Enterprises to
Improve Performance and Drive Profitability

LONDON, UK. January 21, 2002 – Hyperion (Nasdaq: HYSL), a global leader in business intelligence software, and Crystal Decisions, a leading information infrastructure company, today announced a strategic OEM and reseller agreement to embed Crystal Decisions’ powerful web-based query, reporting and information delivery solutions for relational and multidimensional data into Hyperion’s analytic platform. The joint development resulting from this agreement will enable companies to seamlessly access a complete range of information for reporting, analysis, modelling and planning.

By combining the powerful web-based query, reporting and information delivery solutions from Crystal Decisions with the market-leading OLAP technology from Hyperion, customers will have broad and easy access to relational and multidimensional data. With improved data access, reporting and information delivery capabilities, companies will be able to distribute secure, real-time, interactive reports to every user, customer and partner to improve business performance, reduce operating costs and drive profitability.

“The Gartner Business Intelligence Hype Cycle clearly shows that OLAP has matured to become a safe business intelligence technology investment,” said Frank Buytendijk, research director at Gartner, Inc. “OLAP is an important business intelligence technology. However, having a full business intelligence platform includes, amongst other things, managed querying and reporting as well as full Web deployment.”

Hyperion undertook an extensive evaluation of reporting and information delivery solutions on the market before selecting Crystal Enterprise, a Web-based information infrastructure, and Crystal Reports, a world standard for high performance report design. The new agreement builds on a long-standing and successful relationship between the two companies. Crystal Decisions has been offering connectivity to Hyperion products for over five years, helping customers easily and quickly extend the power of Hyperion Essbase with enhanced reporting capabilities.

In addition, the expanded business and technical relationship will result in seamless access to a broad range of data sources, such as relational data from enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) systems as well as multidimensional data for Hyperion customers.

Near term, the agreement between Hyperion and Crystal Decisions enables Hyperion to resell Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise through its direct sales force and worldwide distribution channel. Joint development will begin immediately to optimise the capabilities and performance of the combined solution and to develop unique functionality and seamless integration with Hyperion’s analytic platform. This addition of Web-based query, reporting and information delivery functionality to Hyperion’s market-leading OLAP technology is an important step in the evolution of Hyperion’s powerful analytic platform to a more comprehensive enterprise-wide business intelligence solution.

“This OEM relationship advances Hyperion’s strategy to create and deliver an enterprise-wide business intelligence solution that helps companies measure performance and drive profitability,” said Jeff Rodek, chairman and chief executive officer at Hyperion. “Adding Web reporting and information delivery is a key step in extending our analytic platform to meet customers’ requests for sophisticated access and delivery of information from multiple data sources and Crystal Decisions is the best choice to power this significant component of Hyperion’s business intelligence solution.”

“This strategic agreement with Hyperion further solidifies our position as a world leader for Web reporting and information delivery and is a natural extension of our long-standing partnership with Hyperion,” said Greg Kerfoot, chief executive officer and president at Crystal Decisions. “This partnership with a global leader in business intelligence demonstrates our long-term commitment to extend alliance and integration efforts for the benefit of Hyperion customers.”
