Dominic Barrow Helps Social Business To Maximise Its Investments by Better Understanding Its Core Strategy

Dominic Barrow, an independent consulting company that helps businesses to maximise the value of their IT investments, today announces that Anchor Trust, provider of services for older people, has made a significant contribution to providing independence and choice to older people by completely overhauling its core IT strategy in line with Dominic Barrow’s unique approach.

Anchor Trust is a business that offers a range of services such as nursing homes, residential homes, estate management, care at home and advice and consultancy. Director of Information Systems at Anchor Trust, Bernard Fenton, explains how the company turned to Dominic Barrow. “Rather than discussing the IT systems themselves, Dominic Barrow started by immediately helping us to better understand how to align to our core business strategies. Healthcare and older people are a growth sector and we have a strategy to adapt and change to this sector’s evolving market conditions. We can now make absolutely sure that our IT investment plans reflect this.”

The Government predicts that in the next 40 years the number of older people living in the UK will increase from 20 to 25 percent of the overall population, and
Anchor Trust works very closely with the Government to help it with its strategies when it comes to older people. “By being able to offer more facilities in the future through maximising our investments, we can improve independence and choice for older people in line with the Government’s agenda,” continued Fenton.

“One of the things that most impressed me about Dominic Barrow is that it can deliver a first draft of the strategy document to present to the board of directors in days rather than weeks or months,” commented Fenton. “In my experience any strategy that has to dig so deeply into an organisation’s nucleus has typically taken considerably longer, without achieving the same level of business alignment and attention to detail.”

Underpinning all of the IT investments is skills transfer across Anchor Trust’s businesses. “My colleagues are now able to communicate the business and IT strategies to each other in their own words,” concluded Fenton.

“The key to Anchor Trust’s business strategy is to devolve business planning to the people closest to their customers. So we started by recognising the core competencies that everyone would need to be able to manage their own IT investments and then worked backwards,” commented Director of Dominic Barrow, Chris Potts. “We produced a strategy that was all about the business of investing in IS. This not only aligns with the corporate strategy but advances it.”
