...Agreements with Crystal Decisions, Sagent and Ascential Drive
Improvements To Hyperion's Analytic Platform...
LONDON, UK. January 23, 2002 - Hyperion (NASDAQ: HYSL), a global leader
in business intelligence software, today outlined how three recent
agreements - with Crystal Decisions, Sagent and Ascential Software Corp. -
all demonstrate how Hyperion is executing on its strategy to deliver a
more complete, enterprise-wide business intelligence solution.
This past autumn, Hyperion began publicly articulating its vision of what
companies need from its next-generation business intelligence solution.
Hyperion's strategy includes a more scalable, responsive analytic platform
and application framework that gathers and unifies information from across
the enterprise. With this type of enterprise-wide infrastructure in
place, business managers know they are all working from the same set of
facts. The strategy will also make it possible for companies to implement
new analytic applications more quickly and to distribute more timely
information within the organisation and among customers and partners.
"As our customers' business intelligence needs grow more sophisticated and
as information technology matures, we have the opportunity to incorporate
more advanced capabilities into our solutions," said John Kopcke, chief
technology officer for Hyperion. "These three relationships support our
strategy with best-of-breed technology and broaden the markets we serve."
On Wednesday, January 16, 2002, Hyperion and Crystal Decisions jointly
announced an agreement for Crystal Decisions' query, reporting and
Web-based delivery to make Hyperion's sophisticated analyses more
accessible and usable. Yesterday, January 21, Sagent announced an
agreement to incorporate components of its data flow and data
transformation technology into future releases of Hyperion's analytic
platform. Sagent's technology will enable business users to merge data
from multiple relational, flat file, XML and multidimensional data sources
for rapid and efficient analyses on the fly. Also yesterday, Ascential
announced that Hyperion has selected Ascential as a technology provider
for enterprise data integration. Ascential's DataStage data integration
product family draws data from a wide variety of enterprise business
applications and data sources - such as ERP, CRM, mainframe and relational
databases - allowing Hyperion customers to perform calculations and
analysis on data from virtually anywhere within the enterprise.
"The combination of these three alliances clearly demonstrates that we can
provide top-notch business intelligence solutions for working at the speed
of thought," said Kopcke.
Crystal Decisions Delivers Actionable Information To Users
The agreement with Crystal Decisions provides Web-based query, reporting
and information delivery for analyses conducted by Hyperion's analytic
platform. With improved information access and delivery, companies will
be able to distribute secure, real-time, interactive reports to every
user, customer and partner to improve business performance, reduce
operating costs and drive profitability.
Near term, Hyperion's direct sales force and worldwide distribution
channels are making Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise available to
Hyperion customers. Joint development will begin immediately to develop
unique functionality that will optimise the capabilities and performance
of the combined solution and integrate with Hyperion's analytic platform.
Sagent Helps Hyperion Process Data In Real Time
The agreement announced yesterday by Sagent will enable Hyperion customers
to assimilate data from multiple data sources simultaneously, and to
manipulate, calculate, analyse and report on that data. As part of the
agreement, Hyperion and Sagent agreed to share existing and future patent
rights relating to Sagent technology used in Hyperion's business
intelligence solution. This will ensure that Hyperion customers can get
the full benefit from this superior technology. With Sagent's technology
embedded in Hyperion's analytic platform, business users will be able to
model more data from more sources to yield fast, sophisticated analyses.
Ascential Integrates Data Across The Enterprise
Ascential is extending its DataStage data integration product family to
work seamlessly with Hyperion's Essbase business analysis software family.
This interoperability will allow Hyperion's business analysis
applications to draw data from virtually any data source. Ascential's
DataStage performs the difficult task of pulling data from myriad sources
- such as ERP, CRM, other business applications and databases - and
converting each type of data's unique characteristics into a unified,
usable dataset. From there, Hyperion's analytic platform performs
calculations and analyses. Ascential's and Hyperion's technologies scale
to the needs of the largest enterprises and ensure that their decisions
are based on timely, accurate data.
These three agreements work to bring data together and make data analyses
more sensible and usable by business decision makers. Together, they
expand Hyperion's market opportunities and increase the power and
potential of Hyperion's business intelligence solution in the service of
