Western Digital Corporation, a leader in personal computing storage, has
appointed Arif Shakeel president. Shakeel, 46, retains the title of chief
operating officer, a post he assumed in April, 2001. He reports to chairman
and chief executive officer Matt Massengill, who was elected chairman in
November, 2001. As president and chief operating officer, Shakeel is
responsible for all aspects of the Company’s operations.





Under Shakeel's operations leadership since October 1999, Western Digital
has returned to leadership in the hard drive industry through an emphasis on
quality, flexibility, time-to-market performance, efficiency in its
manufacturing operations, and strengthening relationships with its OEM and
reseller partners. The Company’s core hard drive business has been
profitable for five consecutive quarters.





Shakeel joined Western Digital in 1985 as a product manager. From his
assignment in product marketing, he moved from program management to vice
president of marketing, vice president of business development, Far East
sales, and vice president of materials for Asia.
Shakeel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from
Memphis State University and an MBA from Pepperdine University.





Western Digital chairman and CEO Matt Massengill described Shakeel as "a
