New RBS Mobile Inventory Solution For Held-helds


Retail Business Solutions, one of the UK’s leading providers of total retail solutions, announced today a new range of rental services for retailers. The initiative is being launched with the introduction of RBS’s mobile inventory solution, available on powerful hand-held terminals. Each hand-held is supplied pre-loaded with RBS’s inventory software, configured to interface with the customers’ own systems. Retailers can use the service to supplement their own equipment during company-wide stock counts when additional units are needed. Available for hire by the day, the rental services reflect retail’s move towards outsourcing of non-central operations.



Extensive market research and customer surveys were conducted before the launch. Managing Director at RBS Richard Goodall, comments “We found that most retailers can only cost-justify purchasing some 10% of the hand-helds necessary to optimise stock audits. Our customers told us that access to more would enable faster stock-counts and cause less disruption to their businesses. Most importantly, they would also provide more reliable data leading to improved inventory management.”



RBS has now purchased and commissioned a significant number of hand-helds for hire. Customers may also opt to place their own hand-helds in to a pool administered by RBS in exchange for rental discounts.



“Since launching the service at the beginning of the year, the scheme is now fully booked for the entire Q4 (January 1st to March 31st 2002). We plan to bring more new rental services online in Q1 and Q2 of 2002 (April 1st to August 30th), including the short-term hire of point of sale terminals during peak trading periods,” added Goodall.



Goodall concluded, “Our promise to our customers is to provide the total solution. The services being launched now are designed to give more retailers access to the benefits of retail technology at a cost that they can afford. Ultimately our aim is to provide all our products and services for a fixed monthly fee. We will continue to talk to our customers about how we can work together to provide solutions to the daily challenges that they face.”
