Reading, 30th January 2002: Roches Stores, a leading Irish department store group, has appointed NSB Retail Solutions as prime contractor in the multi-million pound refurbishment of its IT systems. NSB is supplying ObjectPOS point-of-sale software on a Wincor Nixdorf platform to run its 450 tills across its twelve-store estate. This will link with NSB’s RMS Back Office solution, and its Mercatus Merchandising Management system, which will service 135 users at Head Office and across its network of stores in Eire and Northern Ireland. NT Credit will handle on-line credit card authorisation & EFT


In addition to hardware and software procurement, NSB will provide managed training, technical and architectural consultancy, configuration, development and implementation, system integration, hangaring, delivery and installation. NSB will also have a five year hardware and software support services and maintenance contract, which has resulted in increased NSB staffing in Ireland. ObjectPOS went live on 23rd October 2001 in Roches Stores’ new outlet in Tralee, Eire. The successful implementation was carried out in just eight weeks and trading at the new store is already brisk. The remaining eleven stores will roll out between February and May 2002, with full euro-compliancy.


The challenge in implementing Mercatus is that Roches Stores’ existing systems are manual and paper-based, using a bespoke system with in-house development. NSB is therefore not only implementing a new system but also advising on best business practice. The project was launched on November 6th to all head office buyers (60 people) to attend the launch and give input into the new system. Intensive workshops will be held to undertake business analysis. Mercatus will be running head office by October 2002.

The ease of use for the operator and the amount of functions that the system allows in terms of refunds, deposits and methods of payment all mean that the customer can be better served. In addition, the amount and quality of sales information processed by the RMS back office system allows our store management to make quicker and better merchandising decisions.”
