London, 30 January 2002 Selfridges, a leading UK department store retailer, recently experienced a successful warehouse management system “go live” at their new, 160,000 sq ft state-of-the-art national distribution centre (DC) at Hams Hall in the Midlands. The implementation was a joint project between Exel, one of the world leaders in supply chain management and Manhattan Associates, a global leader in supply chain execution and collaborative commerce solutions.
The new DC built by Exel will supply goods to Selfridges stores in London and Manchester. Manhattan Associates solutions, specifically the PkMS warehouse management system and the SmartInfo business intelligence tool, will provide the core fulfilment infrastructure within Exel’s total logistics solution. PkMS will enable Selfridges to process and manage its extensive product mix to increase product availability. SmartInfo will provide graphical representations of historical trends and current activities within the DC. Manhattan’s WorkInfo is also being considered to monitor warehouse productivity.
According to Exel Business Development Manager, Gerard Jones, “Exel chose Manhattan Associates as its partner in this initiative because of the company’s extensive retail expertise and experience as well as for PkMS’ ability to interface with Selfridges’ merchandise management system from Retek. The combined use of these two solutions will allow a smooth flow of goods to meet demand from both stores and customers quickly and accurately.”
