Industry body reduces e-mail traffic with new collaboration service
London, February 4, 2002 - Projectplace Ltd, the leading Internet Business
Service Provider for project collaboration in Europe, announced today that
ProgM, the Programme Management Specific Interest Group, is using
Projectplace's web-based collaboration service to radically reduce the
amount of e-mail traffic between Committee members ) and others relevant
ProgM are using the Projectplace service to act as an interface for their
Committee members, providing a means for document sharing, discussion forum
and central diary. Prior to Projectplace, the geographically dispersed
committee members for ProgM had relied on e-mail as the primary means of
communication. However as the number of e-mails in circulation escalated
into the hundreds, the dangers of confusion between documents, what was
being modified and by whom, became a serious hindrance to productivity.
"Through using Projectplace we have noticed a positive change in our working
practices. For example communication between the Committee members is now
vastly improved and we are to be able to work more efficiently by spending
less time searching for the latest version of a document," said Geoff Reiss,
Chairman of ProgM. "We would certainly recommend the service to other
groups who are perhaps working in different geographical locations, needing
to share documents or work together on a number of projects or similar
"We see the use of our service by ProgM as a major endorsement of our
technology and a great achievement for us," said Dak Liyanearachchi,
Managing Director of Projectplace Ltd. "Much of their time is spent
carrying out administration for the numerous speaker events and conferences
they organise, so any time that can be saved by making processes more
efficient or documents more centralised the better!"
The business concept of Projectplace is to provide a global pay-per-use
web-based application service for professional project collaboration.
Projectplace enables team members to share document and files, schedule
meetings, carry out project scheduling with to-do items and time charts,
hold online discussions etc. The service makes it possible to create
virtual teams, communicate securely independent of geographic distance and
also enables the project member to constantly be updated of what is
happening in the project.
Projectplace is a fast-growing ASP founded in Sweden in 1998. The business
idea is to develop and operate specialised web services that enable people
involved in projects to collaborate and communicate efficiently and
effectively. A Project Place is a secure area on the Internet with numerous
services and features for project collaboration and communication gathered
in one place. It only takes a minute to set up a functional Project Place,
and this is available 24/7 to project members. Projectplace has more than
75,000 users in 30 countries.
