e-Commerce sites have reported record-breaking sales during December according to e-InBusiness, online store developer.
e-InBusiness today announced that its online clients reported hugely successful seasonal sales in
December 2001, with 100% of the sites taking significantly more orders than at the same time last year. Internet wine company casevalue.com ( http://www.casevalue.com) increased online orders ten fold. Buyagift ( http://www.buyagift.co.uk), a specialist gift experience site, saw a 400% rise in sales. Ted Baker ( http://www.tedbaker.co.uk), a leading designer fashion site, reported strong sales during the Christmas season and Heal’s (www.Heals.co.uk), which had increased its online catalogue of contemporary home accessories from 90 to 500 during 2001, also enjoyed a very significant growth in orders. PRCdirect ( http://www.prcdirect.co.uk), a new online division of PRC Hi-fi and Video, has seen an overwhelming response up to and during the Christmas period, which has continued well into January.
Dan Mountain, managing director of Buyagift.co.uk said, “Apart from the four-fold increase in orders placed this year compared to last, the most notable difference has been in the number of people prepared to place the order online. Last Christmas we had a far greater proportion of people browsing the site to locate the gift they wanted, but then calling us to place the order via telephone. People are clearly getting a lot more comfortable with the concept of buying online and placing confidence in Internet security.”
casevalue.com expanded its internet operations by launching a unique B2B division of its site in November. Rupert Hurley, director and co-founder commented, “casevalue.com was extremely busy over the Christmas period with both sectors, business and consumer, performing very well. Our service is particularly well-suited to a solid e-commerce business model, and we expect steady, yet sizeable growth over the next two years.”
Jocelyn Rees, marketing manager at Heal’s said, “We extended the number of products available at the online store and this has paid dividends over the holiday season. The orders taken are well up on last year, and we expect the trend to continue. We increasingly think of www.heals.co.uk as our fifth store.”
Ash Sudra, sales director at PRCdirect commented, “We have been delighted with the good response we have seen from the website during the last six weeks.”
Bob Grindley summarised, “e-Commerce has been through the hype and the subsequent disenchantment phases of customer expectation. We are now starting to see the beginning of mass-market adoption as the technology matures and becomes stable, online stores improve distribution logistics and consumers shake off their anxiety about purchasing over the Internet. The fact that so many e-Commerce sites reported better than expected sales during the fourth quarter proves that there is a place for businesses that are based on sound business principles, even if they are a dot com!”
