Over 700 people used Girobank's internet bill payment service on 31 January to meet the Self Assessment tax deadline.

Between them, on 31 January alone, they used the BillPay service at to pay almost £1.3 million in tax. Throughout
January, more than 2,500 taxpayers used the site to pay £3.3 million.

If you still have any Self Assessment tax to pay, BillPay is available 24
hours a day, making it a very convenient method to use.

Any payments not made in time for the 31 January deadline will have
automatically attracted interest at the Inland Revenue's current APR of
6.5%. Additionally, there will be a 5.0 per cent surcharge on amounts still
outstanding on 28 February.

The Inland Revenue is one of 145 organisations that accept payments via . Users do not need an online bank account - just a
debit card. BillPay uses secure, 128-bit encryption technology.

Registering to use BillPay takes only a few moments and is carried out completely online.
