J.D. EDWARDS INTRODUCES SELF-SERVICE APPLICATIONS TO PROVIDE LOW-COST C-COMMERCE, ANNOUNCES NEW VERSION OF ONEWORLD PORTAL Tuesday 12 February 2002 PDF Print Trusted Partners Gain Secure Access to Critical Supplier and Customer Information J.D. Edwards, a leading provider of agile, collaborative solutions for the connected economy, today announced the general availability of OneWorld® Customer Self-Service and Supplier Self-Service, two web-based applications that businesses can use to allow customers and suppliers to help themselves to critical information safely, easily and inexpensively. In addition, the company has released a new version of the OneWorld Portal, which enables users to access J.D. Edwards applications—including the new self-service products—as well as other information, applications and content from any terminal, laptop or Pocket PC device via their Web browser. With enterprises challenged to cut costs, self-service applications have emerged as an effective way to increase staff efficiency. META Group estimates the average return on investment from a self-service application after six months to be 47 percent. Gartner Group asserts that a customer inquiry handled by a sales representative over the phone costs nine times more than one handled automatically (.50 as compared to .50). In addition, self-service applications reduce the reliance on customer service agents, allowing them to focus on larger, more complex issues. Such applications also enhance customer loyalty by eliminating long hold times and mistakes in routine transaction processing. Self-Service Applications Provide Low-Cost Collaborative Customer Applications J.D. Edwards Customer Self-Service and Supplier Self-Service applications empower OneWorld owners to share their business information with trusted individuals and organisations that need access to enterprise data. Customers and suppliers can access the data and applications they need through the intuitive self-service applications via the OneWorld Portal. Partners along the supply chain can use Supplier Self-Service to help themselves to account information, purchase orders, release schedules, quotes, responses and supplier performance analyses stored within a business’s OneWorld system. With Customer Self-Service, customers can enter and modify forecasts, review sales orders and invoices, track shipments, manage user profiles, review account balances and payment history, and obtain personalised customer alerts. “Customer and Supplier Self-Service exemplify how J.D. Edwards enables businesses to safely and securely share information beyond their walls through low-cost applications,” said Joel Reed, director of customer and supplier relationship management at J.D. Edwards. “These applications further augment J.D. Edwards’ customer and supplier relationship management solutions, and provide an easy-to-use, affordable entrée into the bottom line benefits of customer and supplier lifecycle management.” Customers and suppliers do not need to have OneWorld themselves to access the information stored within the host enterprise’s system. They can access the self-service application as if they were pulling information from the Internet. J.D. Edwards’ new Web-based self-service applications require no tools to install. This dramatically reduces implementation and maintenance costs. OneWorld customers can empower preferred suppliers and customers so that their IT departments can easily manage user IDs, passwords and access. Inland to Give Customers Access to Their Information Using Self-Service Applications Indianapolis-based Inland Paperboard and Packaging, Inc. is Beta testing the new Web-based customer self-service application. Inland will be one of the first in their industry to offer this kind of fully automated integrated service for their customers. “We recognise the need to collaborate with our key business partners and allow them to access critical information on their own,” said Mike Sullivan, senior vice president and CFO, Inland Paperboard and Packaging, Inc. “J.D. Edwards has just about all of the information a number of our customers were looking for right out of the box.” Third Version of OneWorld Portal is Most Flexible and User-Friendly The newest version of the OneWorld Portal has been upgraded and enhanced to allow users to view J.D. Edwards applications and external content from their desktop or remote location over the Web. Based on granted authority by an administrator, users can configure and customise their own workspaces with applications and information from ERP, CRM, Advanced Planning, Business Intelligence, and third-party software systems, as well as integrate Web content and more through a single, personalised layout. Portal information can be viewed from multiple devices, be it a desktop PC, laptop, or mobile platform such as the Pocket PC. The OneWorld Portal detects the device being used and automatically determines the ideal view. The OneWorld Portal is 100% Java, J2EE compliant and fully optimised for the Web. The Portal is pre-integrated with J.D. Edwards’ application set, significantly reducing installation and upgrade requirements, and allowing all applications to inherit the same feel so companies can maintain corporate branding.
