WIN to Launch First SMS Gateway With Cross Network Reverse Billing and Common Shortcodes

Wireless Information Network Ltd (WIN), the UK's largest third party wireless application provider, today announces the release of its Wireless Gateway. This will provide companies with easy access to all four UK networks through WIN's robust SMS connectivity platform. The Wireless Gateway is supported by a technology roadmap to provide increasing functionality over the next 18 months.



The initial launch provides connectivity for cross network reverse billing and common shortcodes. Receipting and spoofing will be released in the second phase. This is followed by a longer term plan which will allow customers access to MMS Gateways, location information, GPRS billing solutions, content integration applications, IVR and voice portals.



WIN has been developing the Gateway concept for 6 months and have positioned it to launch with the broadest range of services and the best platform capabilities at a competitive price. It enables customers with their own applications access to the resilience and reliability of the WIN platform and WIN's connections.



The SMS Gateway has a standard interface so once the content work is completed on the client's side, they can link up to WIN in as little as two days and start collecting revenue from customers through reverse billing.


WIN launched the first reverse billed services with Vodafone in 1998. It was first with BT Cellnet 3rd party reverse billing on contract phones (Aug 2001) and most recently launched reverse billing on Orange (Dec 2001). The company has been at the forefront of wireless service provision in the industry, leading initiatives on reverse billing, common shortcodes and receipting.

WIN's bulk product is available now, with reverse billing on Orange, BT Cellnet contract customers and Vodafone. Interested companies are encouraged to sign up now as One2One and BT Cellnet pre-pay are expected to be available for the provision of billed services by the beginning of March with cross network common shortcodes available.
