London, February 19, 2002 - Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe has announced further additions to its highly integrated MB91360 series of high performance 32-bit microcontrollers with FULL-CAN bus interface and single voltage Flash memory.
The new compact MB91F365 is designed to meet the requirements of small-footprint single-chip applications, which do not need an external bus-interface. It is ideal for use in automotive and industrial environments, which demand two CAN-buses, motor control and standard peripheral functions such as diverse serial interfaces, timers and input-capture/output-compare.
A further version, the MB91F366 is available, which is identical in functionality, resources and pin-out to the MB91F365, except that it provides an additional 32kHz clock input for precise real time clock reference, plus calibration unit, in place of a DAC.
Finally, under development is the compact MB91F364, a single CAN interface device, for applications demanding a particularly small footprint. The device has a host of on-chip peripherals including UARTs, I2C and serial synchronous interfaces, 16-bit reload timers, input-capture/output-compare units and real time clock, as well as a 12-channel ADC, 8 external interrupts and a DAC. These facilities allow a wide range of analogue sensors to be connected, making the MB91F364 ideal for use in a wide range of applications from automotive to industrial.
All these new devices are fabricated in 0.35µm geometry embedded flash technology and built around the established Fujitsu “FR”-core, a 5-stage pipelined RISC core with 16 general-purpose registers and internal Harvard structure. The core is supported by 16kB data RAM and a bit search unit. Program code and constant data are located within a 512kB embedded flash ROM (256kB in the case of the MB91F364), which can be programmed in-circuit using a serial link or via parallel programmers. The ROM offers a minimum 10,000 write/erase cycles.
The new devices satisfy the current demand for higher performance, coupled with “platform”-based solutions, where many compatible devices are used for a wide variety of applications.
The devices share many of the software modules and operating systems with the established MB91360 series microcontrollers, for which libraries already exist, making software development extremely efficient. All microcontrollers are ported for the OSEK operating system now standard for all vehicle control systems.
Particularly important for single-chip applications is the new on-chip “background debug support unit”, which helps software development and debugging of the final application without the use of in-circuit emulator systems. This unit provides a number of instruction and data-breakpoints including mask and range-functionality. An evaluation device, the MB91FV360 is available now, enabling application and software design to be started immediately.
The new family members integrate a clock modulator unit, which reduces noise by spreading the energy of the MCU over a wide frequency range. The unit significantly reduces EME (Electro-Magnetic Emission), enabling EMI-approval standards to be easily met first time without the need for time-consuming and costly re-designs.
All devices are housed in a compact 120-pin QFP package. The MB91F365 and MB91F366 are now available in sample quantities and the MB91F364 will be available for sampling during early Q3 2002.
