Contract will give Glanbia a customer service edge and significant savings over three years

20 February 2002. Cable & Wireless, the global telecommunications group, today announced that it has won a three-year contract to manage a business-critical IP data network for Glanbia, a major international food company with an annual turnover of 2.6 billion. Cable & Wireless will manage the 100-site network across the UK and Republic of Ireland, including sites in Reading, Lockerbie and Milton Keynes, from its new Network Management Centre in Tallaght, Republic of Ireland.

Glanbia's network integrates billing and invoice, production, delivery and customer management information to meet customer requirements. Cable & Wireless will provide router configuration and software upgrades and continually monitor Glanbia's network to provide network monitoring and performance reports. A Service Level Agreement (SLA), operative at key strategic sites and backed by remote fault handling tools at the new Network Management Centre, will ensure maximum network availability.

Glanbia's business and distribution network is reliant on its network to meet its own customers' requirements and Cable & Wireless will deploy its experience of networking technology as well as its understanding of Glanbia's business to help Glanbia plan network expansion and best utilise network bandwidth. The managed service provided by Cable & Wireless will significantly reduce Glanbia's network costs over the three-year contract period.

Cable & Wireless will work with Glanbia's IT services support, and as Tony Minogue, Head of Glanbia's Group Information Technology, explains: "For a dynamic international business like Glanbia, it is important to have a supplier with the reputation and global presence of Cable & Wireless. They will look after our network in the UK and Ireland, which will allow us to focus on the business we know best. Cable & Wireless' expertise and global reach will help us reduce our exposure to technology risk and give our network a managed cost base and international scalability."

Cable & Wireless has become a key business supplier for Glanbia. It supplied Glanbia's original router network and also won Glanbia's last network management tender in 1998. Tony Minogue summarised his experience of Cable & Wireless' services in saying: "They give us competitive pricing and offer good value and excellent technical service and account management from start to finish."
