New T6212 addresses the mid-range market for high-volume back-office printing
Tally, the computer printer specialist, today announced its launch of the T6212 line matrix at CeBIT 2002. The new line printer prints up 1200 lines per minutes with a peak workload usage of 140,000 pages per month, and targets the mid range of the market where large numbers of line printers continue to be bought. This announcement cements Tally’s commitment to providing printers for mission critical applications, and consolidates its position as market leader for line printers, a position the company has held since the early 1990s.
Line printer users often require robust, reliable printers that can produce hundreds of lines of text and data per minute, in what are very busy, often dusty, temperature-affected environments. Line printers have proven to be a consistently put-to-use option in labour-intensive environments, and can have up to 1/20th cost per page compared to a laser for jobs such as label/invoice printing. Tesco UK, for example, uses Tally line printers for its labelling and barcode applications which run to just 5% of the costs previously associated with laser printing.
Managing Director at Tally UK, Robin Edwardes, comments, “Laser evangelists were telling users that they could save money by getting rid of pre-printed stationery. Whilst this is true for the office, it's completely untrue for mission critical environments, particularly applications in the back office. Just looking at the cost of laser consumables will tell you that. To some extent, laser printers have been taking the job that line printers once had, but cost of ownership, application, throughput and workload considerations have swung the focus back onto impact printing. Line printers use ribbons rather than costly toner and ink cartridges and come in at a fraction of the running costs. People are now understanding their applications and asking themselves what printers are really required for certain jobs.”
