Information Builders, a leader in Web Business Intelligence, has developed an electronic mobile phone billing application. Based on its WebFOCUS technology it provides Web access to individuals’ mobile phone bills. The application cuts down on organisations administrative costs by dynamically sorting work related phone numbers from personal calls and charging users for the latter. Information Builders has rolled out the application internally and has already made a 30 per cent saving on its monthly mobile phone bill.
The mobile phone billing project was launched by Information Builders to cut down on its administrative costs but has also provided the additional benefits of dramatically reducing the company’s own monthly phone bill. It has helped ensure that users pay their bill on time. Commercial interest in the market has been high, especially by service providers and blue chip organisations.
The application works by tapping into a database containing all company users’ monthly mobile phone bills and linking it to a CRM system to pre-identify work related phone numbers. As one of the major aims of the application is to save people time, users are given the functionality to sort their calls dynamically, create and maintain a personal ‘Friends & Family’ list, and have both a summary and a detailed view of their bill. By cross-referencing the database with work related phone numbers residing in the CRM system, the application bills users and deducts the cost of personal calls from a user’s salary.
Another advantage of using an electronic billing system based on Information Builders’ WebFOCUS technology is the ease with which reports based on call information can be created. For example it allows managers to track costs or identify which kind of numbers are costing the company the most money allowing a more cost effective tariff to be used. Another benefit is automated exception reports. These highlight the most frequently dialled expensive calls, which are then burst via e-mail to the respective department heads.
Jim Irving, Information Builders UK Managing Director said: “Every competitive organisation needs to examine how they can reduce costs and streamline internal administrative processes. Developing and implementing this system has had a fast and significant return on investment for us already. We have made a 30 per cent cost reduction on our monthly mobile phone bill, which is an excellent saving for us. For large corporate organisations seeking to reduce high annual mobile phone bills the cost saving from implementing this application will be tenfold.”
