NMS' Natural Access for Linux speeds time to market for telecommunications equipment providers

NMS Communications, the leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, today introduced the first Linux version of its Natural Access development environment. Now equipment providers can readily create Linux-based, next-generation telecommunications solutions such as speech-driven services, conferencing, IVR, unified messaging, IP gateways, voice portals and customer contact centers.

Significantly speeding time to market, Natural Access software furnishes a simple, consistent standard application programming interface (API) for integrating and presenting media and telecommunications capabilities to an application. After an application has been developed for a specific operating system or protocol, it can easily be ported to others without impact to the application.

Natural Access is the modular runtime and development environment for NMS Communications' voice, fax and call processing platforms independent of the underlying operating system and communications protocol. By bringing Linux support to Natural Access, NMS Communications expands the range of choice available to equipment providers that are building telecommunications systems based on NMS hardware and software technology. Natural Access also supports Windows NT, Windows 2000, SPARC Solaris and Intel Solaris operating systems.

"We've delivered Natural Access for Linux in direct response to customer request. As a provider of system building blocks in addition to whole systems, the need was clear to us," said Michael Welles, vice president and general manager of NMS Communications' Platforms group. "Developers adopting Linux are attracted by big capabilities for little cost - rewards that carry through to the end-customer."

Based in the Cincinnati area, Interactive Technologies is an NMS partner that develops and hosts robust network services for the carrier and enterprise markets. "We were extremely pleased when NMS announced support for Linux with their award-winning development software. We have long experienced great success developing and implementing systems powered by NMS products. Utilizing the Linux support for Natural Access has allowed Interactive Technologies to offer economically priced services in a highly reliable architecture that meets the requirements of our aggressive service level agreements. Our migration from the existing operating system was easily accomplished and customer feedback has been very positive," said Michael Freeman, executive director of Enhanced Services for Interactive Technologies.
