First New Product Launched as a Result of Rainbow Technologies and Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) Partnership; Biometric Token Product Concept also Displayed at CeBIT

Rainbow eSecurity, a Rainbow Technologies, Inc., (Nasdaq: RNBO) company and a leading solutions provider of digital content and transaction security, today introduced the iKey 3000 USB authentication token, a new product jointly developed by Rainbow and Giesecke & Devient (G&D). The iKey 3000 has a smart chip and a signature application that fully conforms to the comprehensive standards of ITSEC (Information Technology Security Evaluation Criteria) EU legislation for IT security adopted by most EU nations. European customers seeking robust but easy-to-deploy security solutions can now select the world’s leading USB security token which now features full ITSEC compliance.

In addition, Rainbow and G&D will demonstrate at CeBIT a product concept which combines the robust two-factor authentication security features of iKey with advanced fingerprint biometrics. The “SuperToken” concept USB token would represent the world’s first three-factor authentication device, which combines what you know (your password or PIN), what you have (the token) and what you are (your fingerprint). This concept product, not currently commercially available, represents another example of the development work being done between Rainbow and G&D.

The iKey 3000, the latest in the iKey family, is a powerful and portable two-factor authentication USB token that enhances the security of Windows 2000, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) systems and other high-security applications. The iKey 3000 delivers a compact and durable security in a token form factor that plugs directly into the USB port on a laptop or desktop and can be stored on a key ring, making it convenient for mobile workers. The iKey 3000 specifically supports PKI and digital signature needs by providing secure on-token cryptographic key generation. Its 32K memory provides secure storage of multiple X.509 digital certificates and PGP keys. Finally, all digital authentication and signing operations are securely performed on-token. The iKey 3000 contains a highly secure processor chip and the G&D STARCOS® operating system that have been ITSEC E4 High certified.

The addition of the iKey 3000 to the iKey family accelerates the adoption of pan-European standardisation of security devices that ensure cross-border recognition of high-integrity IT security technologies. ITSEC is recognised throughout Europe as delivering a guaranteed standard of security. Many European governments will not implement any security solution that has not been independently verified and tested for conformance to ITSEC. The iKey 3000 will be available in Europe during Q2 2002. Pricing depends upon application and quantities.

“There is pent-up demand across the European market for standardisation of security, and the EU’s ITSEC standards provide a reliable route to achieve this,” said Graham Peat, European marketing manager, Rainbow Technologies.

“One of the reasons we were eager to partner with Rainbow Technologies is the company’s international presence and experience with USB token technologies,” said Harald Gerber, strategic marketing manager, G&D. “We collaborated closely on the development of the iKey 3000 to ensure that ITSEC standards were met rapidly and appropriately for use across Europe. The SuperToken concept was developed to field test the next evolution of authentication security in a product that is easy to use and deploy.”

Rainbow Technologies and Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) announced a joint development partnership last month. The iKey 3000 authentication token and the SuperToken concept product represent the initial results of this partnership. Rainbow’s iKey USB authentication tokens are the world’s market share leader with 35 percent of the $6 million market in 2000, according to International Data Corp. (IDC).
