New X-Pedition Security Router 1800 Series Combines VPN, Firewall and Security Technologies with IP Routing and Multiple WAN Interfaces

NEWBURY, ENGLAND & HANNOVER, GERMANY – March 13, 2002 – Enterasys Networks Inc. (NYSE: ETS), a leader in enterprise networking solutions, today announced its new X-Pedition Security Router 1800 series products (XSR-1800 series), a family of next-generation security routers designed for enterprise branch offices. The XSR-1800 series delivers powerful remote office networking by combining a rich suite of IP router features and a broad range of WAN interfaces with enterprise-class Virtual Private Networking (VPN) and policy-managed distributed firewalling.

Organizations have become increasingly dependent on distributed intelligence and expertise. The XSR-1800 series exceeds customers’ security and connectivity requirements, enabling new business models and increasing productivity.

β€œWith the introduction of the XSR-1800 series, Enterasys is addressing the demand of enterprise customers for highly secure remote office networking with multiple forward migration options and investment protection. Branch office routers, firewalls and VPNs have been viewed in the past as standalone products. Enterasys has integrated these capabilities into a powerful, cost-effective, easy-to-manage solution,” said Henry Fiallo, chairman and CEO of Enterasys Networks. β€œThe integrated security technologies and leading-edge price and performance of our new security routers are redefining the enterprise branch office network.”

Simple configuration and powerful remote management allow customers to easily deploy XSR-1800 series routers at remote locations even at sites that lack technical support staff. Upgrades and feature enhancements can be completed remotely, and the familiar command line interface reduces IT training costs.

β€œEnterprise customers are acutely aware of the cost of owning, operating, and maintaining branch office WAN connections. Enterasys is responding to these needs in a highly proactive manner with the introduction of its new X-Pedition Security Routers, which offer a strong combination of routing, security and management features,” said Joel Conover, senior analyst at Current Analysis. β€œEnterasys is leveraging its key technologies to deliver a new high-performance platform that addresses the pain points of the enterprise customer. The XSR-1805 enables customers to cost-effectively add functionality as their enterprise security and connectivity needs grow.”

With the increased amount of sensitive information that travels across corporate networks today, security is a key concern for both large and small organizations. The XSR-1800’s suite of security technologies will be further enhanced by the future integration of Enterasys’ award-winning Dragon Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) technologies. Other future enhancements to the XSR-1800 series include support for convergence technologies to deliver voice, video and data applications to branch offices.

β€œThe new X-Pedition Security Routers from Enterasys promise great synergy with Siemens’ IP convergence technologies, especially for small and medium-sized businesses, and branch and regional offices of large, Global 1000 companies. The Enterasys architecture delivers future-proof, cost-effective secure communications to the enterprise,” said Bernd Kuhlin, president of enterprise networks, Siemens AG.

The XSR-1800 series is fully managed by Enterasys’ NetSight Atlas network management solution and is also supported by the company’s EnteraCare services portfolio. The X-Pedition Security Router 1805 (XSR-1805) is the first product in the XSR-1800 series and will be available in May 2002.
