Strategic Deal to Bolster Telcontar’s Position as the Premier Software Platform for Location-Based Services
Telcontar, the provider of the premier software platform for location-based services, today announced it has acquired the assets of wireless location-based service provider Gravitate. As part of the deal, Telcontar received the company’s source code and hired key engineering staff. Gravitate is best known for its software platform that supports mobile-to-mobile and static-to-mobile services deployed on wireless devices. This technology enables the real-time management of the wireless subscriber location information, as well as location-based advertising and commerce. It also allows for the development of next generation applications such as instant messaging, matchmaking, and mobile gaming that are based on users’ proximity to other users.
"Telcontar recognized a wonderful synergy between our existing technical expertise and that of Gravitate," said Eric Carlson, president and CEO of Telcontar. “Gravitate’s ability to extract data from moving points through its database technology complements our map-focused approach extremely well. Applications that can use the Gravitate technology for LBS include real time traffic monitoring, asset management tracking, push advertising, emergency response and vehicle security. The combined result is Telcontar can offer its customers the most comprehensive software platform for location-based services currently available.”
