Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc., and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimodal enhanced communications services, today announced its new presence management platform. Comverse's open presence management platform adds significant revenue-generating capabilities to any enhanced services network by notifying subscriber-defined affinity groups, individuals, services and applications of user availability on the network.
Comverse's presence platform dynamically monitors the user's current device, network status, location and availability. This enables it to deliver personalised communication services and content, with the user choosing to be identified or anonymous on the network. Presence notification encourages usage of voice and data services, and helps users manage their business and personal communications on a dynamic basis. Comverse's platform is fully compatible with leading edge services such as unified messaging (UM), multimedia messaging (MMS), wireless instant messaging, voice services, gaming, and location-based services, and it is compliant with PAM (Presence Availability Management) Forum specifications.
The presence platform enables users to easily adjust their reachability (using definitions such as available, busy, away, or according to mood) for one or more virtual identities, which can be for personal or business use. When the subscriber desires, the system notifies affinity group members, individuals and network-based services and applications of his/her availability and location. In addition, the system intelligently distributes messaging data according to device capability - for example, it adjusts picture resolution according to the sophistication levels of MMS-enabled handsets, while for non-MMS phones it sends an SMS link to the file's network storage location.
Zeev Bregman, Chief Executive Officer of Comverse, said, "Intelligent presence management is at the heart of the evolving mobile and wireline domains. Many
end-users have multiple communication devices, addresses, and networks they access, so the presence platform provides a central point of reference. Our presence management platform has far-reaching revenue-boosting, differentiation, and churn-reduction applications for the operator, and it provides a major improvement to the subscriber's user experience. The system's privacy and management features are very important as well, because they give users full control over their communication with groups, individual people, services, and applications. In addition, our system's openness enables it to work seamlessly with our or any other vendor's enhanced services infrastructure. We are seeing market interest in our presence platform, and large operators in North America and elsewhere are already considering integrating it into their services networks."
The presence platform functions as a hub enabling different services to integrate into, and add value to, Comverse's multimodal environment. Multimodality gives subscribers the freedom to move seamlessly between different modes of interaction, from visual to voice to touch, according to changes in context or user preference. In addition, the presence platform gives application providers new opportunities to create device- and network-independent services.
