Milgo Solutions, one of the UK’s foremost communications solutions providers, has scored an unprecedented awards double by being honoured twice in one week – by a major partner and then by a customer.

Milgo, now a part of the Kingston Communications Group, was first named 2001 EMEA Best Innovator by Nortel Networks, an industry leader in networking and communications solutions. Champagne corks were soon popping again when one of Britain’s leading pub companies, Scottish and Newcastle Retail, named Milgo 2001 Services Supplier of the Year.

With 80 companies in the running for Nortel Networks 2001 Partner awards, Milgo was chosen for the creative way it builds customer solutions around Nortel’s telephony and data technology. “Milgo has always been a company willing to challenge the status quo and, as part of Kingston Communications, it expects to have even stronger and broader solutions to offer its customers,” said Barry Shakespeare, Nortel Networks’ president, channel and partner sales.

Scottish and Newcastle Retail was equally complimentary in giving Milgo its Services Supplier award – the first time ever the accolade has gone to an IT company. In making the award, Scottish and Newcastle Retail IT director Jane Kimberlin cited Milgo’s excellent customer service and innovative and robust solutions.

“Milgo takes an active interest in our business, supporting our brands and lodges. The company is a very worthy winner of Services Supplier of the Year, and certainly provides inspiring service in all areas,” she said.

Jeff Kaye, Milgo’s managing director, commented: “The awards recognise the enormous steps that the business has taken to delight its customers and reflect the excellent relationships that we have built up with some of the world’s major corporations.”

The awards were also welcomed by Jane Hannah, managing director of Kingston inbusiness, the national business-to-business services division of Kingston of which Milgo is now a part.

“These awards are in direct recognition of Milgo's ability to develop effective solutions to real customer needs and underscore the creativity, hard work and commitment of Milgo’s people,” she said. “I’m looking forward to even more successes in the future with Milgo as a key part of Kingston inbusiness.”

The Nortel Networks 2001 Best Innovator award follows pioneering work by Milgo with Nortel Networks VoIP (Voice over IP) portfolio, including IP (Internet Protocol) enabled Meridian*, fully networked Call Pilot* and Business Communications Manager* (BCM) enterprise solutions. This enabled Milgo to build an end-to-end converged voice/data platform. The highly resilient, scalable and flexible solution has allowed Milgo to give its own business a competitive and strategic advantage, providing a showcase to potential customers.

Scottish and Newcastle Retail’s award acknowledges Milgo’s efforts with a large-scale network upgrade project at the company’s new headquarters building. Milgo helped assure a smooth migration by providing pre-implementation consultancy and training together with network design, testing, project management and maintenance.
