Auspex Deploys InfiniBand in NS3000 Network Servers

London, March 25, 2002 - Auspex Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASPX), a leading
provider of enterprise storage solutions, today announced plans to deploy
InfiniBandSM technology to enhance the performance and scalability of its
NS3000 series of network servers and data management appliances. Auspex is
the first vendor to announce an InfiniBand architecture for a network
storage product line, improving the throughput and expandability of the
current generation of storage products through a high-bandwidth,
point-to-point I/O interconnect strategy that overcomes the bottlenecks
inherent in existing bus systems.

Auspex will deliver InfiniBand functionality based on semiconductors
provided by Mellanox Technologies, the leading silicon supplier of
InfiniBand devices. In addition, Auspex has joined the InfiniBand Trade
Association, a consortium that developed the new interconnect standard in
order to support the demand for I/O technologies that keep pace with the
rapidly expanding performance needs of today's data centres.

"We have been testing an InfiniBand system in our lab for over a year, and
the implementation has resulted in dramatic speed gains on our internal
bus," said Jim Garvey, Vice President of Engineering at Auspex Systems.
"Now that InfiniBand technology is being widely accepted as the new industry
standard, we are moving quickly to make these performance benefits available
to our customers."

Auspex is using InfiniBand interconnect technology to speed inter-processor
communication inside its servers and appliances. Faster data throughput and
other performance improvements will be achieved through the technology's
improved utilisation of the 64-bit bus, reduced load on the host processor,
and the efficient message routing of InfiniBand's point-to-point topology.
Implementing InfiniBand also will make it possible to increase scalability
by connecting additional I/O nodes through inter-node networking.

InfiniBand technology will be deployed both in Auspex's NS3000 family of
network servers and in the new Auspex NSc3000 Network Storage Controller,
the first multivendor SAN-to-NAS gateway. The controller, announced earlier
this month, lowers storage management costs by utilising an enterprise's
existing SAN infrastructure to deliver file services and file sharing
through a small appliance that fits in a standard rack. It can be used with
any SAN storage subsystem, with multiple storage pools and with
heterogeneous storage media - all industry firsts.
"Auspex was one of the first storage vendors to recognise the value of the
InfiniBand architecture for increasing performance and reducing IT costs,
and their aggressiveness in implementing the technology shows leadership in
the industry," said Yuval Leader, Vice President of Software and System
Solutions for Mellanox Technologies. "With Auspex's upcoming deployment of
InfiniBand-based network solutions, IT managers will be able to experience
the benefits of InfiniBand for storage in action."

Mellanox has delivered multiple generations of InfiniBand switch and channel
adapter silicon technology to the data centre market. The company has been
shipping 10Gb/s InfiniBridge(tm) channel adapters and switches since January
2001, and began shipping its second-generation InfiniScale(tm) switch in
October 2001. InfiniScale is an eight-port 4X (10Gb/s) switch and the first
available device with an integrated physical layer.

About Auspex Systems

Auspex introduced the world's first Network Attached Storage (NAS) server
shortly after its founding in 1987, creating a new breed of storage
appliance capable of delivering significant performance and administrative
benefits over general-purpose file servers. Auspex's enterprise-class
network servers are used by customers around the world because of their
advanced feature set, including the industry's highest scalability and most
secure UNIX and Windows data sharing. The company is headquartered in Santa
Clara, California, with sales offices and channel partners throughout the
U.S. and around the globe. Its shares are traded on the Nasdaq under the
symbol ASPX.
