London, March 25, 2002 - Clarent Corporation (OTC: CLRN
<>), a leading provider of softswitch
solutions for next generation networks, today announced the availability of
NetPerformer Enterprise Gateway (EG). NetPerformer EG uses the SIP protocol
to connect the NetPerformer product line, widely used for private network
voice and data applications in the enterprise, with Clarent's
industry-leading VoIP softswitch, which provides access to global VoIP
networks and the public telephone network. For more than ten years,
corporations have saved communications costs by using compressed voice and
data over packetised private networks enabled by NetPerformer. Now, with a
simple software upgrade to a customer's existing hardware investment,
NetPerformer EG enables standards based VoIP and extends the reach of
NetPerformer to off-net access to the PSTN over the Clarent softswitch.

NetPerformer EG leverages the full range of capabilities of the NetPerformer
product line in large enterprises as well as small, remote offices. These
capabilities include support for 2 to 240 telephony channels per unit,
converged voice and data over leased or switched lines, Frame Relay, ATM, PP
links, ISDN PRI and BRI, satellite as well as IP/Ethernet circuits. Through
the SIP connection, NetPerformer EG also capitalises on the Clarent
softswitch capabilities including robust Class 4 and Class 5 functionality,
applications such as pre-paid calling and IVR, and scalability of Clarent's
distributed softswitch architecture. Clarent began field testing of
NetPerformer EG in December, 2001.

"NetPerformer EG is a significant initiative for both Clarent's NetPerformer
and softswitch product lines," said Elizabeth Cholawsky, Vice President of
Marketing. "For NetPerformer, SIP connectivity to the PSTN through our
softswitch provides a converged communications network for enterprises,
while creating new revenue opportunities for service providers. By
developing SIP capabilities on our Class 5 Call Manager, the reach of the
Clarent softswitch now extends to the enterprise and can interoperate with
many different types of SIP end points."
