London, 8th April, 2002. Research conducted by the Mobile Data Association (1) has revealed that the biggest barrier to implementing mobile data projects is insufficient knowledge, although over 50% stated that the technology improved efficiency and 35% felt that it improved customer service. To narrow this knowledge gap and to create a greater awareness of mobile data, the MDA will be hosting real time demonstrations, advice clinics and case study shows within the Wireless Technology Zone at networks telecom europe 2002.

"The research we conducted demonstrates that although end users recognise the obvious benefits of using mobile data, they are understandably reluctant to take it up with limited knowledge," explains Kate Marriott of the MDA. "Our sponsorship of the Wireless Technology zone at networks telecom europe 2002 provides us with the perfect platform to reach the end users and to inform them of the latest developments, advise them of the benefits and to answer any questions they may have."

Within the Wireless Technology Zone at networks telecom europe 2002 the MDA, in conjunction with Casio will be providing visitors with a chance to take part in a real-time survey using Cassiopeia Pocket PC's.

In order to demonstrate the networking capabilities of these devices and show how with the right software they can be controlled remotely, the survey will take the following format:

A number of multiple choice questions are entered in advance
The questions are then broadcast from a PC over the network to the PDA's
The user sees the question and clicks on their answer
Results are then transmitted to the PC, connected to a projector and automatically shown on the screen in real time

networks telecom europe 2002, to be held on the 25th - 27th June 2002 at the Birmingham NEC, is one of the UK's leading IT, telecoms and internet events. In it's role as a valuable information resource for the networking industry, networks telecom europe 2002 will reflect and investigate current issues within dedicated zones, including the Security Zone, Storage Networking Zone, Convergence Zone and the Channel Partner Zone.
