(London, 08/04/02): ABC ELECTRONIC (the new media arm of the Audit Bureau of Circulations) today announced it is to audit the judging of this year's NetMedia European Online Journalism Awards (EOJA).

The EOJA, now in their fourth year, were the first awards in the world to honour the work of those who write for the Web as well as the first pan-European digital media awards.

The EOJA plays a leading role in helping to encourage and disseminate best practice in online journalism among European journalists. It is opened to all European journalists and the judges are drawn from leading European media houses. The Awards are administered by a supervisory board consisting of leading journalism educators from across the continent.

The audit is a further step in the professionalisation of the Awards.

The ABC ELECTRONC audit process will:

1) Verify the number of entries to each category and the overall total.

2) Audit the scores of each judge for all entries / categories in
both the preliminary and shortlisting stages.

Richard Foan, Managing Director of ABC ELECTRONIC, said:

"The judging process has to be impartial and our experience in Internet traffic and email auditing mean we are able to provide that impartiality. As one of the most recognized media brands we are delighted to be involved in the process and provide the independent verification required by the organisers".

Milverton Wallace, founder and organiser, said: "The Awards, generate tremendous interest across the continent and individual journalists and media houses invest much time and resources to participate in the competition. These factors, combined with the tremendous growth in the number of entries since 1999, made it necessary for us to begin to audit the entries as well as the adjudication process. No one is better qualified to carry out this task than ABC ELECTRONIC. We're honoured and very pleased they've chosen to work with us in this important European media project."
