Radio Taxis Chooses Capscan’s Address Management Solution for Internet Booking System

Capscan, the supplier of UK and international address and data management systems, today announced that Radio Taxis Limited (RTL) has selected Capscan’s address management solutions to validate pick-up point data from their new Internet Booking system. The correct address data is crucial to the booking system, allowing the Taxi Despatch system to assign the correct map co-ordinates for pick-up and drop-off points.

RTL was formed in 1953 by a group of six independent licensed taxi drivers. Today a mutual society of black-cab drivers owns the company, and has a fleet of over 2,500 licensed cabs. RTL now specialises in providing transport services to many large corporates in London.

Jonathan Visser, Project Manager at Radio Taxis comments, “Radio Taxis initiated an Internet Booking project to improve the service we offer, and also partly due to customer demand. We expect the system to take up to 25% of our business. However, without a mechanism to validate the customer’s data online our booking system could not work.”

RTL ruled out the option of building an address management system themselves, as it became clear that to be effective, the software would require a sophisticated search algorithm. This would have increased the project schedule and used resources needlessly. RTL came to the conclusion that any systems they could build would probably not be as robust and complete as Capscan’s.

Visser continues, “Having looked at several address management suppliers we chose Capscan because of the solution it offered, and also because of its customer service. Capscan immediately arranged a face-to-face meeting to answer all our questions, and to demonstrate the solution. This quickly and easily established that Matchcode could meet our requirements. And because Capscan provided great support during the purchasing process, we were more than confident that the after-sales support would be excellent.”

Another major factor in RTL’s selection of Capscan’s solution is the Software Development Kit (SDK), which included demonstration code in VB and Java. This meant RTL could test the basic principles out quickly (VB) and see how to implement the solution in Java, which is the language used to create RTL’s Internet Booker.

RTL specifically required the ability to add datasets to the Royal Mail PAF address database. The extra dataset gives RTL access to the X and Y grid co-ordinates for a particular address, which they need to convert the pick-up address into GPS co-ordinates.

“The benefits of Matchcode Webnet are immediately obvious. The system automatically chooses the best search method based on the format of the query entered. This means that the validation is the fastest it can be. By moving booking requests online, we are able to improve service in the call centre. Basically this means faster response on the query lines, especially during peak times. We could not have done this without Capscan’s software,” concludes Visser.
