Platform Computing, the leading provider of distributed computing software, has appointed Kieran Lees as Director of Sales, Northern Europe. In this position, Lees will lead Platform’s aggressive expansion across all vertical markets and government, and work closely with existing customers includingAirbus, AstraZeneca, Deutsche Bank, the France Telethon’s ‘Decrypthon’ project, GlaxoSmithKline, Nokia, Infineon, Renault, and the Sanger Wellcome Trust Institute, among others.

Reporting to Alain Wiedmer, Vice President, European Sales, Lees is responsible for the UK and Ireland, Scandinavia and Benelux, as well as Israel, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa. With over 10 years experience in the technology industry, Lees was most recently a UK District Manager at SUN Microsystems. Prior to this, he held various management positions at SUN Microsystems UK and Oracle Corporation Limited.

“Computers and servers are still sold and used as discrete resources, highly specified and configured to cope with extremes peaks in demand. This results in an incredible over-spend and under-utilisation of assets. Gartner Group estimates that in the UK alone, bn is OVER-spent on information technology by businesses every year,” said Lees. “Controlling IT efficiencies is fast becoming a key issue on every CIO’s agenda. Platform’s solutions allow for the full utilization of these locked-up IT assets, releasing hundreds of millions of dollars of capital spend.”

In addition, Lees believes that most corporations are continually looking for new ways to exploit technology to provide them with a competitive edge; whether that be in developing the next world-changing drug ahead of the competition, or providing much faster response times to market analysts in the banking sector. Platform’s solutions provide much more cost-effective and powerful application deployment.

“The ever-increasing business requirement is to provide powerful, always-on computing, giving high return on asset (ROA) and reduction in costs,” Lees continued. “With an established install base in Northern Europe of some 300 customers, including organisations such as SAAB Aerospace, BMW, Audi, Philips Electronics and Ericsson, Platform is a market leader in distributed computing solutions. It is unique in its delivery of the industry’s only heterogeneous, end-to-end solutions for distributed and Grid computing.”

As Director, Northern European sales for Platform, Lees will be responsible for realising a key goal for Platform, which is to develop and leverage strategic partnerships with value-added resellers, independent software providers (ISPs), system integrators and consulting firms, and service providers in each of Platform’s main market segments. Platform is already actively collaborating with a number of system vendors such as Compaq, HP, IBM, SUN and SGI, among others. To support this growth, Lees will aggressively expand Platform’s Northern European operations and will be actively hiring in the areas of sales, consulting, professional services and administration.

“Kieran has a successful track record in the IT industry and an extensive understanding of solutions to meet the business needs of customers, whilst providing a strong addition to the Platform EMEA management team,” said Alain Wiedmer, Vice President, European sales, Platform Computing.
