Manchester United, the world’s biggest football club, today announces the re-launch of its website (, which has been developed in conjunction with the creative department of Dimension Data, a leading technology services company. Dimension Data won a five-way competitive pitch in November 2001 to redefine Manchester United’s online presence.

Breaking the mould of current football websites, the site is wholly focused on maximising the online football experience to the millions of Manchester United supporters across the world (an estimated 54 million worldwide - source: Mori 2001). After consultation with Manchester United’s own fans, Dimension Data has developed a football website, which re-creates and reflects the heightening levels of excitement experienced by the fans in the lead-up to each match kick-off.

The website has three main areas for its fans, ‘Football Now’, ‘Theatre of Dreams’ and Shop@MU. ‘Football Now’ is the dynamic section of the site, which focuses on the current season and features a countdown clock and statistics of the next match, even changing the interface colour to reflect the colour of the strip that Manchester United will be next playing in. The ‘Theatre of Dreams’ area is dedicated to the club and its ongoing relationship with its fans, providing information about the club’s heritage, purchasing of tickets and online merchandising to the global community of supporters. Shop@MU is an area where fans can purchase a wide range of Manchester United products and services, including merchandise, hospitality and tickets.

The new website goes ‘live’ on 15 April 2002.
