Partnership Programme With Industry Leaders Simplifies the Integration of Ethernet Services into Carrier OSS Environments
Appian Communications™, the first to enable delivery of carrier-class Ethernet-over-SDH/SONET services, today announced the addition of five leading vendors to its service management partners initiative. The partner programme includes joint marketing, cooperative product development, and/or interoperability verification. It aims to assist carriers by both lowering the cost and simplifying the integration of new high-value Ethernet services into their existing operational support systems (OSSs).
The new partnerships respond to requests from carriers looking to incorporate Appian’s Optical Services Activation Platform™ (OSAP™) and the AppianVista™ Services and Element Manager into their existing back-office systems. With this announcement, Appian is partnering with additional fault, inventory, performance, service assurance, and customer management vendors, including:
- Clear – the leader in performance and Service Level Agreement (SLA) management for transport and optical;
- Concord Communications (NASDAQ: CCRD) – the market leader in automating technology management of the Internet infrastructure;
- Granite Systems – the leader in service resource management;
- Megasys Computer Technologies – the leading provider of SONET/TDM configuration and fault management solutions; and
- TeleGea - a leading vendor for automating service fulfillment.
Development and interoperability testing have been completed between Appian’s products and the eHealth™ Suite from Concord Communications and the Telenium® Global NMS solution from MegaSys Computer Technologies. Integration work is underway with the Clearview™ product suite from Clear, the Xpercom® product suite from Granite Systems, and the Emporium Enterprise suite from TeleGea. In addition Appian announced completion of development and interoperability testing with the Netcool® suite based on its existing relationship with Micromuse (Nasdaq:MUSE), the leader in service and business assurance software.
“Carriers are migrating their legacy, voice-optimised OSS environments to include new Ethernet packet services which promise huge operational savings,” commented Mark Weeks, Vice President EMEA for Appian. “In response to their requests Appian are working with the industry’s leading suppliers of OSS software to simplify and reduce the cost of this migration in terms of both hardware and management systems.”
The partnerships are established to integrate OSAP-enabled services into the management systems from these companies, whose expertise spans from traditional voice to next-generation data systems. Through this, Appian is helping carriers more easily integrate its new cost-saving features such as dynamic service activation, into both their legacy and next-generation OSS environments. To simplify and accelerate the development of partner integration modules, Appian has made available both an AppianVista integration tool kit (including standards-based CORBA and XML APIs) and the interfaces for its OSAP.
Key to the partnerships, AppianVista is a highly scalable services and element manager that operates in conjunction with Appian's OSAP to deliver a rich suite of TDM and next-generation Ethernet services. The system builds on a series of advanced management applications that augment a carrier's OSS with value-added services such as remote service activation, event correlation, service level tracking, and customer network management. Each of these capabilities plays a key role in simplifying the migration to next-generation packet services that can not only increase carrier revenues but also reduce the cost of service delivery.
About Appian Communications
Appian is removing the final metro area bottleneck to new optical service revenues. Designed to enable growth in service revenue and profitability, the Appian solution combines the low cost and simplicity of Ethernet with the resilience and scale of established SDH/SONET networks to enable carrier-class Ethernet services that include secure Ethernet Private Lines, Virtual Private LAN, and scalable Ethernet-based Internet/frame relay/ATM access. With its integrated TDM service support, the Optical Services Activation Platform™ (OSAP™) is a best-of-breed multi-service solution that simplifies the migration from today’s rigid, circuit-optimised voice and private line offerings to these next-generation service offers. Appian products are currently shipping to emerging and established providers, including NTT Communications, around the world. For more information, please visit www.appiancom.com.
