Claims that Progress Dynamics™ halves the development time of applications has gained public support from the
international Swiss healthcare specialist DataSwiss Solutions, following similar experiences from Proteus and
KCS in the UK.

DataSwiss developed its new SwissCare® healthcare application in half the time expected using Progress
Dynamics (see press release at www.progress.com/releases/2001/121101a.htm). Announced earlier this year,
Dynamics is a repository-based framework and part of the Progress OpenEdge™ suite of development tools and
database products for building and integrating e-business applications.

DataSwiss handles the requirements of a wide range of healthcare service providers including specialty
hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, nursing homes and in-home healthcare. The company operates globally and
wanted a flexible and fast solution to address international issues such as multiple languages and translation
of data.

The Progress Localization Manager provided by Dynamics allows for consistent business context translations of
the application interface into multiple languages without modifying the application’s original source code.
This can happen while the system is operating live and in parallel with users speaking different languages,
regardless of the actual location of the application. SwissCare language offerings include English, US
English, French, Spanish and German.

Frank Mainzer, chief technology officer for DataSwiss said: “With Dynamics, we developed about sixty percent
of the application without writing a single line of code. In addition to the increase in development
productivity and related cost savings, the use of standard procedures resulted in a significant reduction of
programming errors.”

SwissCare also makes use of Progress® WebClient™ technology. This ultra thin client approach enables
connection to the system from anywhere with a PC and an Internet connection. When a user logs on, WebClient
checks whether they are using the most up-to-date version of the system and if not, automatically downloads
it. Despite running the application from a browser, WebClient provides the rich look and feel of Windows –
complete with a multi-window capability.

SwissCare runs on all Microsoft operating systems (from Windows 95 upwards) and web servers, as well as on all
Unix derivatives. With the help of Progress Dynamics, the application is also fully enabled for the
out-hosted, application service provider (ASP) distribution model, without any additional development effort
or application modifications.
