-W32/Klez-H Virus Highlights Ease With Which Email Can Be Hijacked -

UK, 30th May 2002: DespatchBox, a supplier of secure communication solutions, today warned organisations that the growing number of 'identity hijacking' email viruses that are beginning to emerge are likely to become more sophisticated and wreak havoc with email as a business tool.

The warning comes as several high profile organisations* battle to convince customers that the Klez virus, which hijacks identities, is not actually originating from them.

Viruses like Klez have far reaching implications to business over and above time wasted in neutralising the virus. Organisations can be duped into believing that a message has been sent by a trusted supplier, mis-fed information, or simply have their reputation damaged. Above all, organisations become wary of the integrity of email. DespatchBox urges organisations to seriously consider adding an additional security layer to their existing email applications.

"As more email is hijacked or impersonated the less people will rely on standard email as a business tool. At the least, hijacking of email can be a nuisance and at the worst can be fraudulent." said Jolyon Jago, DespatchBox.

"Organisations should evaluate additional email security solutions which provide guaranteed sender and recipient identity. In this way, email can be trusted and used as an efficient and secure business application."

DespatchBox has a number of enterprise solutions which add user security to leading email applications. Easy to deploy, these solutions ensure that an organisation can be certain of the integrity/origin of an email and that it has not been intercepted or altered in any way.
