Protects Organizations with Industry’s first ‘Trusted Zone’ Between Telecommuters and Corporate Networks

Networld+Interop, Las Vegas, NV -- May 7, 2002 – Broadening its portfolio of telecommuting solutions, SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), the leading provider of comprehensive Internet security solutions, today announced the TELE3 TZ, an innovative new security appliance that sets the standard for secure access and management for an ever-increasing Internet-connected telecommuter workforce. The TELE3 TZ protects corporations from vulnerabilities caused by home networks sharing a single broadband connection, as it physically isolates the telecommuter’s work connection from their home network with a separate WorkPort™ and HomePort™.

"Growth in broadband is spurring a rapid increase in corporate telecommuting and home networking," said Charles Kolodgy, Internet Security Software Research Manager for IDC. "Network administrators are increasingly concerned about the vulnerabilities telecommuters create for the corporate network when sharing broadband connections associated with unprotected or limited-protection home networks. The TELE3 TZ is a unique solution to protect telecommuters and their corporate networks by allowing the enterprise to enforce corporate security policy even when utilizing a home network."

"The two biggest security concerns of telecommuting are home user behavior and physical control of a telecommuter's security solution," said Tom Furlong, SonicWALL senior vice president of Product Development. "The TELE3 TZ is an affordable solution to both problems and is a proof-point of SonicWALL’s continued technology innovation.”

The Tele3 TZ is equipped with two ports that are separated at Layer two of the OSI stack. These ports are designated as the WorkPort and the HomePort. The WorkPort connects to the telecommuter's computer and provides a secure, direct VPN connection to the telecommuter’s corporate network. The WorkPort is physically isolated from the HomePort, which connects to the home network. By physically separating communications between the telecommuter and home users, the risk of inadvertent exposure to harmful Trojans, viruses and hacker attacks is eliminated.

Included with the TELE3 TZ is SonicWALL’s ASIC-based, accelerated 3DES IPSec VPN, enabling the telecommuter to establish a completely secure tunnel (connection) to the corporate network. The TELE3 TZ supports up to 5 users and features bandwidth prioritization, ensuring appropriate bandwidth allocation for all corporate VPN connections.

The TELE3 TZ is an integrated security solution that features the following:

• Integrated Security Appliance with physically separate security zones
Hardened, stateful packet-inspection firewall delivering 75Mbps throughput
10/100 Network Ports: WAN Port, WorkPortTM, and HomePortTM
