London and San Francisco, May 8 2002 – RiverSoft (LSE: RSFT.L), the network intelligence company, today launched new versions of RiverSoft® Network Management Operating System (NMOS™) and Fault Manager, introducing support for Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). MPLS is a standards-approved technology that increases network traffic speed and manageability.
The network management solution offered by RiverSoft NMOS and Fault Manager uses advanced modeling techniques to map the complex network inter-relationships inherent in VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks), VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) and applications. This solution also provides accurate root cause analysis and the impact prediction of faults on business services.
Available immediately, RiverSoft’s new advanced management extension for MPLS includes connectivity assurance, service views and correlation of MPLS-specific alerts. These new features build on RiverSoft’s mission to help large enterprises and service providers increase their network visibility and to recover hidden economic value from existing network assets.
The MPLS Advanced Management Extension autodiscovers the existence and connectivity of MPLS VPNs. It also carries out root-cause analysis of faults in MPLS networks and correlates physical faults and any brown-out conditions with MPLS-specific alerts.
In addition to support for MPLS, RiverSoft has introduced an advanced management extension for ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), allowing visibility of the setup of dynamically created circuits between network points.
The policy management of RiverSoft NMOS has also been enhanced, enabling policies based on a number of different factors to be configured via the RiverSoft graphical user interface.
Glenn O’Donnell, Program Director of Service Management Strategies for META Group said: "Advanced network services such as MPLS are finally forcing users to address management immediately upon deployment of the service. Configuration management is necessary for these technologies because automated controls and capability discovery are inherent to their design and central to their proper use. MPLS remains a technology with few management choices. This automation demand will accelerate through 2002 and 2003 as enterprises and service providers ramp up their use of these technologies."
“RiverSoft’s software enables us to radically improve our understanding of the dynamic changes in our network and how it is being used,” said Peter Jestico, network engineer at Nextra, a RiverSoft customer. “MPLS technology is key to Nextra’s VPN offering in helping to guarantee end-to-end quality of service. Using RiverSoft’s software we will now have a full service view of how our network is deployed and how changes impact our customers.”
Phil Tee, CTO and President of RiverSoft said: “In today’s complex network environments which are in a constant state of change and dependant upon both legacy and next generation technologies, MPLS delivers significant quality of service benefits. However, the lack of visibility and the inherent security of MPLS has made network management a very difficult challenge.”
Tee continued: “As businesses become more reliant on their networks and sensitivity to downtime becomes more acute, advanced management tools are needed that provide the level of network knowledge to enable companies to maximise the value of network uptime and achieve competitive edge. By constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation in this arena we have continued to enhance our products to help service providers and enterprises integrate new network technologies while maximising ROI, and tackle the issue of the growing service demands of their customers.”
RiverSoft, the network intelligence company, builds advanced network management software solutions. These provide the network visibility required to manage complex next-generation networks and improve network accuracy, availability and service delivery.
At the core is the RiverSoft Network Management Operating System (NMOS), a sophisticated platform that automatically discovers and continuously monitors the configuration of the network.
The company’s global customer base covers diverse industries such as internet service providers, transportation, financial services, telecommunications and network providers. Customers include AT&T Wireless, Qwest Communications, Carphone Warehouse, Level3 Communications, Alltel and Siemens Network Systems Ltd.
RiverSoft works with world-class business partners such as Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Logica and Accenture. OEM agreements are held with industry leaders Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard which have licensed NMOS-enabled technologies.
Headquartered in Richmond, London, RiverSoft employs 185 people, has 70 customers and is listed on the London Stock Exchange under the symbol “RSFT.L”.
