Less is more at speciality tea and coffee site from Whittard

e-InBusiness, the specialist e-commerce system builder has built a new online store for Whittard of Chelsea. The new store, which replaces an earlier more complex site, was launched during April and within days had people registered from all over the world including USA and Japan. The site has been designed for simple navigation, ease of use and with lower set-up and maintenance costs.

Richard Rose, CEO at Whittard explained, "The previous web-site was aiming to support a much wider range of products when it was believed that Internet sales would form a larger part of the Whittard business. The strategy for the new site was to offer a very simple method of shopping for teas and coffees online, supported by a robust back office system. Many of the products are found in our stores but several speciality teas and coffees are available only through the internet and by mail order. This site now supports our main business providing information and access to products for all Whittard customers."

The new store was designed and built by e-InBusiness using Intershop technology, in just five weeks. All content is now managed by business staff at Whittard. The previous online store, built as a bespoke software development for Whittard, required a team of web specialists to support the site and maintain the content. The new site is designed to be managed entirely by non-technical staff. There’s even a smart software extension that enables Whittard to create and manage merchandising offers, such as "Buy any 3 teas for £10". e-InBusiness hosts the site, ensuring maximum availability 24 hours a day, and provides a range of support services.

Stuart Maxwell, Project Manager at Whittard commented, "We chose e-InBusiness because they were recommended by Intershop; they offered all the services we required and their references were great. We were able to work very closely with e-InBusiness to produce the finished website in a short timescale, within budget. They provided an excellent service and were extremely proactive."

Bob Grindley, Commercial Director at e-InBusiness said, "By simplifying the online store to provide a quicker more streamlined site for customers that wish to buy speciality teas and coffees, Whittard of Chelsea has proven that when it comes to design for online stores, less is indeed more. Not only does the site look set to deliver what customers want, it is easier to maintain therefore keeping overall running costs down considerably, so delivering ROI."

e-InBusiness will be running email marketing campaigns for Whittard in the coming weeks and an affiliate marketing programme is planned for later this year.
