Research results ahead of new integration launch event –
Softworld Business Integration Expo 2002

Over the past few years, numerous organisations have invested in the latest software applications to drive their business forward, however many are now finding that these systems are becoming redundant on their own, according to a recent Softworld survey. The results showed that only 34% of businesses interviewed currently link their accounting and finance system to any other application within the organisation, such as a sales database or a supply chain management (SCM) system.

However, the results did also show that a large proportion recognise the potential for integration, with 73% planning to integrate all of their organisation’s applications together in the near future.

The survey, which was carried out on the accounting and finance community at the recent Softworld Accounting & Finance event, also revealed that whilst 86% of companies currently boast a web presence, only 9% of these sites link into back office applications to fully enable the website for business. The results did indicate however that awareness of integration technology is increasing, with over half of respondees stating that they are familiar with Web Services and a further 55% stating that they are planning to invest in this area soon.

The research was conducted ahead of the new launch event, Softworld Business Integration Expo, taking place from 16 – 17 October 2002 at the NEC, Birmingham. The event will showcase the full range of integration tools and technologies that update, consolidate and co-ordinate all of the applications and business processes within – and between – enterprises. Softworld Business Integration Expo covers the critical approaches that IT and business management need to be aware of, such as

XML, Web Services, EAI and Business Process Management. The event comprises an exhibition featuring leading players such as IBM, Scala Business Solutions, Silverstream, GE Global Exchange Services and DataMirror as well as an educational programme made up of vendor seminars, breakfast briefing and masterclass sessions and a Solutions Centre on the showfloor.

“E-Business has changed the way that companies now operate and, with a growing need to forge closer links with customers and suppliers to stay ahead of the competition, many companies have faced increasing pressure to invest in new applications in order to achieve this goal” says Justin Opie, Portfolio Director at Softworld event organiser Imark Communications.

“However, many of these applications are not delivering what they originally promised, putting enormous pressure on IT Departments throughout organisations to deliver new and improved technology. Often, companies are left with a tangled web of applications costing more in maintenance than they are returning in profits. Many businesses are now realising that they must now integrate all of these systems together in order to remain truly competitive, but a large majority do not know where to start. This is the main driving force behind Softworld Business Integration Expo, which will educate visitors, providing them with a balanced view of the market and the latest solutions on offer.”

All pre-registered visitors will receive a free Softworld Buyers’ Guide to Business Integration Technology (RRP £120) which will prove invaluable in researching the right business software. The guide contains white papers, case studies, opinion pieces and comprehensive corporate and product profiles for all exhibiting companies.
