Telcontar today announced the latest version of its Drill Down Server (DDS), the premier software platform for location-based services. DDS v2.5 features enhanced scalability, speed and external database links along with a host of features specifically for the European market. Yahoo! recently launched its new mapping and routing services based on Telcontar's DDS v2.5.
The new version of the software is available for multi-modal use, enabling routing and navigation applications to be used by vehicles, by pedestrians and people travelling on public transport. DDS v2.5 now also supports landmarks and points of interest, ferries and underpasses. Links to external databases such as Oracle have been streamlined to enable much quicker retrieval and updating of spatial data.
Drill Down Server v2.5 enables Telcontar's customers to provide much faster, accurate and more comprehensive location-based services for mobile phones, call centres, pocket PCs, PDAs and in-vehicle telematics units. Applications that use DDS include turn-by-turn directions, mapping and navigation, real-time traffic information, emergency roadside assistance, commercial and personal fleet tracking and concierge and directory services.
Graham Page, managing director of Telcontar's European operation said, "This is a significant product release for the European market. We have incorporated many enhancements requested by our European customers and feedback from our development sites has been extremely positive. This builds significantly on Telcontar's already strong position as the leading software platform for location-based services."
