Support for New Distributed Computing Standards Will Improve Speed and Ease of Critical Information Flow
Information Builders, the leader in business intelligence solutions for real-time information delivery over the Web, today announced its plans to extend WebFOCUS to support Web services, the emerging standard for cross-environment computing via the Internet. Web services create an open environment and will allow WebFOCUS customers to strengthen business relationships through improved communication and dynamic information exchange – both inside and outside the enterprise.
All WebFOCUS solutions will be made Web services-compliant, opening up the Internet to a variety of powerful new information services empowering multiple corporations to easily leverage robust and scalable information delivery capabilities and share critical business intelligence regardless of their computing environment. Users can also reach beyond the limited data available via Web services to data in more than 85 other sources and turn that data into meaningful information.
"Information Builders is offering WebFOCUS Web services capabilities built on five years of a pure Web-based architecture," said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. "We are not counting on Web services to bring our products to the Web, we're already there. We see Web services as an evolving standard that will help companies easily and rapidly collaborate – both inside and outside the enterprise, not only over intranets and extranets, but also over the Internet."
Although WebFOCUS offers users many distribution and integration options, Information Builders is committed to Web services as a very fast and easy way to collaborate with many people and systems simultaneously. For example, an organisation can turn its financial statement into a Web service, allowing investment managers to access the information, provide certain parameters – such as date ranges, product lines, and regions – and receive a customised real-time financial statement that can be directly embedded into a research document.
The powerful functionality of WebFOCUS can extend these types of Web services to provide real-time access, automated self-service information subscription, and e-mail delivery, as well as document formatting in HTML, PDF, XML, Excel 2000, Excel Pivot Table, and others. Additionally, WebFOCUS' unique Knowledge Mapping feature will allow users to drill down on any Web services file and navigate to any contextually-related document, report, or Web page.
Anyone, from power users to developers, can leverage the flexible data access and powerful formatting and distribution features of WebFOCUS from their own applications and create customised, scalable information delivery solutions from any data source. Additionally, WebFOCUS' Web services will embrace IBM, Sun, and Microsoft products and registries, providing a cross-platform strategy that will give developers the widest latitude in implementing business intelligence solutions with Web services and WebFOCUS.
“WebFOCUS already leads the market for web-based, real-time information delivery and Business Intelligence,” said Jim Irving, Information Builders’ UK Managing Director. “With the inclusion of Web services on top of all we provide today, Information Builders will further extend its lead. Organisations that choose to adopt the Web services standard can also massively extend their reach and capability through WebFOCUS.”
Web services-compliant solutions are also available to help companies address interoperability issues among proprietary systems. iWay Software, an Information Builders company, offers iWay Business Services, a Web services framework for accessing more than 200 proprietary information systems. iWay Business Services can help organisations integrate disparate information systems faster, more cost-effectively, and more uniformly than ever before.
Web services support will be provided in WebFOCUS in stages across several WebFOCUS releases during 2002.
