ARUNA EARNS IBM SERVER PROVEN VALIDATION, DEMONSTRATING SCALABILITY FOR ENTERPRISE DEPLOYMENT
London, 5 June 2002 – Aruna plc, the UK-based developer of information access software, today announced that its flagship product, Aruna Companion, is now an IBM ServerProven Business Solution. Combining the power of Aruna’s software and IBM’s eServer xSeries further accelerates the speed with which business users are able to interact with large volumes of their corporate data.
An advanced information access platform, Aruna Companion allows business users to analyse data across multiple sources and locations, whether on the web or within corporate databases. Queries may also be asked in plain English from user’s desktops without IT expertise. Based upon new mathematical algorithms, it copies and compresses all the original data from multiple data sources into a unified form, known as the Query Data Set (QDS), removing the load from existing databases and enabling queries to run at search engine speed.
One customer that is already reaping the benefits of the partnership between Aruna and IBM is 192.com, the UK’s largest on-line directory enquiry service.
Dominic Blackburn, business development director at 192.com, comments: “Our massive raw data content and high user volume requirements necessitated a high performance, scaleable and future-proof solution to support them. Using Aruna’s software, Aruna Companion, and IBM’s eServer xSeries hardware in tandem, the service has exceeded our most optimistic expectations in terms of search capacity and power. With over 500,000 database queries and a capacity to search over 100 trillion records each day, it is nothing short of phenomenal.”
Mark McLellan, head of product strategy, Aruna, comments: “We know that our customers don’t want the implementation and setup difficulties that come with some products, which is why we validated our software to run on xSeries servers. Customers can buy our solution with confidence knowing that all the components have been thoroughly tested to work together in real-world environments.
As part of IBM’s ServerProven program, Aruna will take advantage of technical support and special joint marketing programmes, enabling the company to place more focus on selling and implementing the solution and increasing its market share.
Simon Baxendale, IBM eServer Sales Manager says: " We were impressed with
the ease by which Aruna Companion passed our server certifications and the performance it delivered. This provides a comprehensive solution for customers looking to implement information access systems on a leading edge server platform.”
