London, June 17, 2002 - Clarent Corporation a leading provider of IP
Softswitch and enterprise voice and data convergence solutions for next
generation networks, today announced that iTopia, a global
telecommunications service provider and distributor, purchased over one
million dollars of Clarent software and equipment during the first quarter
of 2002. This is the first time quarterly sales to iTopia have exceeded the
million-dollar mark during iTopia's three and a half years as a Clarent
customer.

iTopia attributes rising sales activity to the impact of competition and
falling prices on the profit margins of local telecommunications providers,
many of whom are turning to IP-based solutions to reduce network expenses
and generate new revenue streams.

"VoIP can support a variety of profitable applications," explained Ng See
Nguan, Managing Director, iTopia. "Domestic service providers are seriously
evaluating IP-based solutions to enable cost-effective and rapid
international expansion, and we are seeing wholesale voice providers
aggressively pursue high margin retail opportunities such as pre-paid
calling and calling card applications. VoIP over wireless broadband is
another compelling application, because it enables new market entrants to
quickly and cost-effectively compete with incumbent providers while
providing basic voice availability in areas where the installation of
wireline networks has not been economically feasible."

Industry analysts forecast explosive growth for VoIP in Asia. "VoIP
services revenues are expected to grow from US.15 billion in 2001 to a
massive US.8 billion in 2005," reports Renee Gamble, IDC market analyst
for Asia Pacific IP & Broadband Services. "Market conditions and
regulations are unique in each market, however, creating a real need for
vendors with local experience and understanding to work with service
providers on VoIP network deployments."

"Our sales of Clarent solutions to local operators exceeded one million U.S.
dollars during the first quarter of this year," stated Ng See Nguan.
"iTopia is committed to providing solutions that enable our customers to
build and maintain sustainable, profitable businesses. The combination of
Clarent's industry-leading technology with iTopia's expertise and system
integration capabilities allows us to offer tailored IP-based communications
solutions that can help our customers succeed."

A Clarent customer for the past three and a half years, iTopia is an
authorised regional distributor of Clarent Softswitch solutions and the
exclusive Master Distributor in Southeast Asia for Clarent's Integrated
Softswitch solution. iTopia also relies exclusively on Clarent software and
equipment within its own network to provide a global Clearinghouse
supporting retail service providers.

"We congratulate iTopia on reaching this milestone," said Frank Lee,
Clarent's Vice President of Sales and General Manager for the Asia Pacific
Region. "This is an example of how Clarent has been able to leverage its
partnerships globally to extend the reach and penetration of VoIP
solutions."

Clarent and iTopia will showcase Clarent's industry-leading VoIP solutions
at the CommunicAsia 2002 Summit, being held June 18-21, 2002 in Singapore.
