London, June 18, 2002. GeoSolutions 2002 launches the GeoSolutions for Business Forum. The Forum will focus on the benefits of Geographic Information (GI) for general business by empowering business professionals with new ideas to improve service and productivity. The invitation only Forum will offer expert advice through a series of case study led seminars and masterclasses. Delegates will also have the opportunity to network with other business professionals.

Clare McSheaffrey, Conference and Projects Manager commented, “The Forum will demonstrate how the effective use of GI can help decision makers form better business strategies, improve ROI and gain competitive advantage.”

Case studies include:

- “Information at the front line”

Find out how BT is drastically improving customer service and network efficiency, with an estimated cost saving of £23 million over the next five years. This session looks at how BT is empowering its workforce of 17,000 field engineers with the capability to locate customers and network faults more quickly and effectively. Presented by Simon Armstrong from MapInfo.

- “Why knowing ‘where’ is so important in the aggregates industry”

Lafarge, being one of the UK’s largest producers of raw materials to the construction industry, is heavily influenced by the location of raw materials, distribution of customers and competitors, and high transport costs. These factors make the exploitation of location based information essential. Hear how location-based information solutions have helped Lafarge improve product pricing, performance assessment, quoting, ordering and dispatching. And find out how these solutions have been integrated with existing business systems to provide improved information to users across the organisation.

Presented by Andrew Smith, from InfoTech Enterprises Europe Limited.

- “Improving business with geodemographics”

-Find out how the effective use of business geodemographics is helping the world's largest express transportation company. With 46 call centres across the globe handling over 500,000 telephone calls daily, and 42,500 couriers delivering more than 3.1 million packages every single working day the need to forecast demand is crucial. So is the ability to develop highly effective operational, sales and marketing strategies. Presented by Gary Selby from Information Arts.

Masterclasses include:

- “Harnessing cutting-edge GI science for commercial benefit”

In a fast-moving business environment the successful sourcing and exploitation of tomorrow’s technologies is of paramount importance to today’s market-leading companies. To gain competitive advantage, forward thinking businesses are turning increasingly to UK universities where there is a wealth of pioneering research expertise to support the emerging knowledge-based economy. If you are seeking sources of knowledge that will influence the well-being of your organisation, this is where to come. Presented by Ordnance Survey and UCL.

In addition to the GeoSolutions for General Business Forum, there will also be Forums on Property, Marketing and Retail. These four exclusive Forums are designed to give business decision-makers a unique opportunity to discover how GI can improve business performance. With case study led presentations and practical masterclasses, delegates will be able to “tailor” a programme to suit their particular needs.
