NEW YORK, N.Y., 28th June 2002 — Progress Software subsidiary Sonic Software, the world’s fastest growing
Internet middleware company, has teamed up with XMethods to offer developers an exciting new testing ground
for creating collaborative Web services. XMethods has launched a new version of XSpace, its simple, flexible,
globally accessible database exposed as a Web service. SonicMQ® fortifies the XSpace Web service by providing
reliable, asynchronous SOAP messaging.

“Web services is the next step in the evolution of businesses seeking to integrate and collaborate in a
standards-based fashion,” said Dave Chappell, vice president and chief technology evangelist for Sonic
Software.

XMethods is the Web services lab used by developers from around the world to familiarise themselves with new
standards and test their innovations. Adding asynchronous processing to Web services will help accelerate
their adoption for real-world deployments. Sonic and XMethods are placing this capability in the hands of
thousands of developers so they can directly experience the benefits of Web services messaging.

“Most Web services communication today is simple SOAP over HTTP-but that’s just the tip of the iceberg,” said
Tony Hong, cofounder of XMethods. “Combining SOAP with standards-based messaging is the perfect solution for
supporting more enterprise-capable Web service interactions. SonicMQ’s loosely-coupled, asynchronous
capability and proven Internet-enabled architecture gives XMethods’ users the reliability and scalability to
continue pushing the edge of Web services.”

Availability

The use of SonicMQ reliable Web services client will be available on XSpace beginning July 15th. To get

XMethods

XMethods, founded in 2000 and based in San Jose, California, is the publisher of one of the most widely used
Web services directories today, www.xmethods.net. The site gives developers the tools and information they
need to find and bind to a wide variety of both demonstration and commercial Web services. The site
additionally serves as a research and development platform, where new uses of Web services can be demonstrated
and evaluated.
