. PowerPC 750FX processor operating internally from 600MHz to 1GHz

. Up to 320MB flash memory

. 256MB to 2GB SDRAM

. Up to 128 MB local PCI Packet Memory

. Up to four Gigabit Ethernet ports - two front-panel, two PICMG 2.16 nodes

SBS Technologies® (Nasdaq: SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, today introduced Olympus, a versatile, high-performance 6U CompactPCI single board computer with a PowerPCT 750FX processor and an advanced design that reduces traffic through the local PCI bridge and maximises memory bandwidth. Olympus features up to four Gigabit Ethernet ports, two on the front panel and two on the PICMG 2.16 backplane allowing for more design flexibility. Ideal for advanced routing applications such as core routers and edge access devices, Olympus is optimised for high-speed data processing from several interfaces.

Olympus is designed to maximise bandwidth and increase performance. It offers up to 128 MB of Packet Memory, which is a low-latency synchronous memory resource on the local PCI bus. This flexible resource is zero wait-state, which means that little PCI bandwidth is wasted on waiting for memory to become available," said Dan Moore, president of the SBS Technologies Communications Group. "Packet processing applications will see a significant performance improvement with the use of this technology."

"Different customers have different design requirements. Our goal is to provide system designers with dynamic and versatile products that meet the highest performance standards and ensure a faster time-to-market," added Moore.

Olympus supports up to 320 MB of flash memory: 256 MB of NAND flash drive and 64 MB of soldered bulk flash. It also complies with the latest industry standards and uses advanced components such as the IBM 750FX processor and Discovery GT-64260 system controller.

The 750FX operates internally from 600 MHz up to 1 GHz. The external bus interface is 64 bits wide and operates at 133 MHz for maximising data processing bandwidth. The packet switching backplane support allows the user to take advantage of the benefits of LAN in an embedded system, including high availability and high bandwidth. Dedicated 10/100/1000 Mb/s Ethernet ports provide this functionality.

Olympus is capable of hosting up to two PMC/PPMC modules. The PMC interfaces can operate in 32- or 64-bit mode at 33 or 66 MHz and can be used in redundant and load sharing applications.

Olympus can act as a CompactPCI system controller or as an intelligent peripheral device. IPMI is also supported through PICMG 2.9 compliance. This includes voltage and performance monitoring, as well and power and reset control. Olympus provides hardware mechanisms to monitor local PCI and CompactPCI bus utilisation.

Software Support

Olympus supports VxWorks. Linux support is currently in development. Other operating system support is available upon request.
