Home Media Networks Signs Deal With TVTV To Allow Users To Record Programmes From The Web

Home Media Networks Ltd, developer of network-capable home entertainment software today announced that ShowShifter can now be programmed through TVTV’s Pan-European web-based electronic programme guide (EPG). The agreement covers all nine European markets currently covered by TVTV and includes support for all current and future ShowShifter users.

TVTV contains information on 450 channels across fifteen European countries, and has nine country specific websites. On

ShowShifter users can access 2 weeks in advance of programme information for all 130 channels in the UK.

ShowShifter allows the user to watch, record and time shift (pause) TV, play DVD videos, listen to CDs and MP3 music files all through one interface. With the integration with TVTV, country specific websites have the look and feel of conventional paper-based listing guides whilst having the advantage of being accessible from anywhere at any time.

“Using the new service is similar to synching a PDA to a desktop PC,” explained Cumhur Gundogdu Director, TVTV. “Once users are logged on, all they need to do is to create a personal job list with the programmes they want to record and then send it to their PC where ShowShifter is installed. An applet on the PC will then periodically check for incoming instructions and configure ShowShifter accordingly so that you never miss a show!”

“When we saw ShowShifter we were very impressed by its FarView technology, the concept that it was designed to be used from a distance on a television screen,” said Gundogdu. “This is something that it certainly has over its rivals as it is designed to be used in a conventional home environment.”

“It was important that we could supplement our award-winning products by allowing our customers to be able to instruct ShowShifter to record remotely from a web interface,” comments Home Media Networks CEO, John Croft. “It is the obvious extension to any networked home to be able to tell your appliances what to do whilst at the office or in the pub, this way you never have to miss the programmes that you want to see, however mobile your lifestyle is.”
