ID Data plc has won a four-year contract with its joint venture company TTi to supply EMV cards and personalisation services to EDS for the Post Office™ card account. The card production and personalisation for this multi-million pound contract is being handled by ID Data Systems.

TTi is a leading supplier and specialises in delivering EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) payment solutions. To date TTi has delivered over nine million EMV smart cards and provides consultancy to many UK and international banks as well as software solutions for back office operations to enable card issuance.

The Post Office™ card account is offered as part of its universal banking service that will enable customers to continue collecting benefits in cash at local branches from April 2003. EDS won an outline eight-year contract to develop and support the card account at the Post Office™ and is providing the card, account administration and customer support services. TTI and EDS have the option to extend this contract beyond this initial four-year period.

The Government will begin to pay all benefits directly into bank accounts from April 2003. These accounts will use PIN (personal identification number) technology at the counter and the card is based on the EMV standard for debit card transactions.

Commenting on the Post Office™ contract win, Peter Cox, CEO of ID Data plc said: “This is a high profile account and we faced stiff competition in order to win it. Both ID Data and TTi are extremely pleased to be working with EDS and the Post Office™ on this project.”

Shaun Eardley, Managing Director of TTi Card, added: “TTi won this business by showing significant proven capability and commitment and we are excited to be a part of this major UK wide infrastructure programme.”
