Compact TELE3 SP Supports Failover and Failback of Broadband and Dial-Up Connections for Continuous VPN Uptime

London, UK – July 17, 2002 – SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), the leading provider of integrated Internet security solutions, today announced the TELE3 SP (Smart Path). The only secure firewall/VPN appliance with integrated and automated fail-over and fail-back technology capable of supporting both broadband and dial-up connections, the TELE3 SP delivers uninterrupted remote connectivity in a compact, portable hardware appliance.

The TELE3 SP’s automated fail-over and fail-back technology maintains the ‘Smartest Path’ back to the network headquarters, overcoming broadband interruptions. It ensures constant uptime for Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnels by automatically failing over to an integrated analog modem. Once the broadband connection has been re-established, the TELE3 SP automatically detects the restored broadband connection and fails back, maintaining the best possible connection. In addition, the TELE3 SP’s unique, lightweight and compact size make it easy and convenient to deploy at kiosk terminals or to carry on the road for remote access.

“Our customers in the retail point-of-sale industry substantially improve their value proposition as they migrate from expensive frame-relay systems and cumbersome dial-up connections to always-on, broadband Internet access,” said Mike Chaput, owner, PCS Networks. “The combination of form and functionality in the TELE3 SP provides a secure, high-availability solution for online transaction processing, resulting in strong initial demand for the product among our retail customer base.”

Millions of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), kiosks and other point-of-sale businesses worldwide rely upon constant, secure Internet connections for online transaction processing and can’t afford to lose connectivity.

"The TELE3 SP’s compact size and integrated modem with automatic analog fail-over and fail-back to Ethernet, represents a new class of remote end-point security (REPS) solutions," said Anil Phull, Industry Analyst, Yankee Group. "In combination with the SonicWALL GMS, TELE3 SPs can be deployed in distributed network environments like banks, retail stores and kiosk locations, providing corporate networks with security applications such as anti-virus, content filtering, and authentication."

The TELE3 SP is easily managed by SonicWALL’s Global Management System (GMS). It supports SonicWALL Network Anti-Virus, Internet Content Filtering and Authentication Service in a tightly integrated hardware and software solution, providing everything needed for secure, remote connectivity.

“Part of what makes the TELE3 SP unique in the security industry is its ease of integration with the SonicWALL PRO and GX Series VPN concentrators and its centralized management with SonicWALL GMS,” said Tom Furlong, SonicWALL senior vice-president of product development. “This integrated and managed solution for point-of-sale, kiosk and remote access connectivity opens new market opportunities for SonicWALL to deliver its world-class security solutions.”
