Former Cable & Wireless VP to head up pan-European HR function at Canon
LONDON, 22nd July, 2002 – Canon Europe has appointed Nigel Morton as Chief of Human Resources to mastermind the creation of an enhanced performance culture throughout the company’s recently restructured pan-European operations.
Prior to joining Canon Europe, Nigel held senior HR roles at Cable & Wireless and Ford Motor Company. He brings to Canon Europe a wealth of experience and understanding of working across countries and cultures.
Nigel will initially focus his attention on fostering existing internal skills and creating a ‘talent management’ programme within the organisation. An important part of his HR strategy will be to retain individual local cultures and practices whilst introducing a single, integrated pan-European HR function across Canon Europe.
Nigel Morton, Chief of Human Resources said: “Integrating any local market function into a central resource can be a lengthy and sensitive process. It is vital to recognise, amongst other things, the different working practices of individual countries. With representation from many European nations within the senior management teams, Canon is already a genuinely ‘European’ organisation and I look forward to becoming part of this dynamic team.”
Mr. Tsuruoka, CEO and President of Canon Europe said: “We are experiencing great changes at Canon as we transform our business from a series of local country organisations into a single, integrated pan-European entity. This multi-faceted, multicultural environment has fuelled the need for a single, centralised HR resource with a comprehensive understanding of the local market needs and conditions. Nigel’s experience and inspired approach to HR will prove invaluable in making our vision a reality.”
